Has any toured with a hammock. I have been considering making the plunge into hammock camping and wondering if it would also work for my upcoming tour as well (from Washington to LA). I am currently using the REI Bug Hut 2 with a tarp and having great success with it since the setup is super light. The only problem is that there are times when I wake up feeling like hell since I couldn't find an even (or rock free) surface to sleep on. I do a lot of stealth camping locally so I am not against doing it along the tour.

I have been looking at the Hennesey hammocks but I also came across this hammock (http://www.majorsurplusnsurvival.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MSS&Product_Code=022494&Category_Code=23) and was wondering if it was worth the money.

Any tips and/or tricks that you may know about using hammocks would be appreciated as well.

Looks good, and you might even sleep flat. That said I noticed there are two lines coming off each side, one seems to hold up the roof, the other the hammock base. I wonder what it would look like after someone slept in it for a while.

If you buy one, let us know how it works out.

Before you commit to a hammock for a tour, be sure you are comfortable with it at home.

I'm a tummy sleeper.

My sons use them for backpacking, but I can never get comfortable...and I've tried a couple designs.

I've even tried the kind where you sleep "brazilian style". It keeps your back straighter, but I slip off the ends! I'm too tall, I guess :D

To each their own!
