Mountain Biking - 4X or dual slolam course in central USA?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I watched 4X on OLN all last season, I watched "Superheros", now I HAVE to do a race. You SoCal people are lucky, from what I've seen there's lots of good racing out there. Here in OK/AR we have good XC trails, excellent motocross, but absolutely no 4X courses (yet). Anybody know where I can find the closest track? I wouldn't be opposed to driving up to CO if any of the ski resorts have a course, but I just gotta try this...

You are in a bit of a tough situation.
They can be built though.

Hey M. I thought you said you had some property that you were building on. Why not make a 4x course on it. You could also build it so your son could do dh bmx.

dirtbikedude- yes, I plan to do that. But from past experience building any kind of trails they always end up better with more people riding them. And I would start racing there but it is very hard to get to, it requires a 4X4 just to get to my gate. The area XC races around here are starting to have a dh race the same day as the xc race, and that's cool, but still not the same as 4X. 4X is like motocross except no engines. 4X to me looks like a safer, cheaper alternative to motocross. The perfect sport.
Have you seen the vid "Superheros" yet? They have alot of footage from socal. I always heard that was a rider's paradise, but I never imagined how much you people really have out there.
I know some of last year's races were held at some of CO's ski areas, just can't remember which ones. I'm planning my annual pilgrammage and CO is probably where I will be going this summer. Would be nice to arrange it so I just happen to be there during a race day...

You could build a mtb park, get the insurance needed, and shutle riders out there with one of these:

I forgot to give you this info. These are the dates the World Cup will be in CO. July 5 & 6. You should try and check it out. The best in the world will be there.

LOL- I need one of those!!
You know, I did consider doing something like that. About 6 months ago I posted a message on an AR bike club board just to see if there was enough interest. I really didn't get much response. I also talked to an owner of a Tulsa BS, and he did say that he started to sell more dh rigs in the last year. DH is just starting to grow in my area, but from the huge mx crowd I think it's just a matter of time before we start seeing more action. Our problem is that terrain big enough to do something like a 4X course is usually remote, so it might always be a "fringe" activity here.
