I got a crap super under payed job... so i got a bike for comuting... the handle bars suck real bad, and the frame is a bit too small for me... today a friend came by for some off roading... i took out my XC bike, with a big frame sweet bars and huge wheels... oh man SO much nicer...

and then i hit a stump, went over the bars; rear wheel crashes on to head (helmet). FUN

Do you guys find that XC style is more comfortable than road... and 29" rocks my comuters "700c" (42-622)

My XC bike is a little small for regular commuting, seeing as it's built for dirt, not road. That said, I put an old set of mtn bars on my old road bike and use that for commuting. It's comfortable, light and way faster than my XC bike.

I might try some flat/raised bars on my comuter... i wana see if the lbs will let me fit them on and THEN see if i want them... hmmmm....

I prefer a road bike from my commuting. I ride an 80's touring frame with drop bars. I prefer the different hand position options road bars offer.

I guess I am more of a roadie though so I prefer the style and feel of a road bike over that of a mountain bike.

My 35km round trip commute alternates between my road bike and my XC bike in the summer. The road bike is usually, but not always, a little faster.

I've got a short travel full squish for XC and I do everything with it.

And I've never heard of a 29" on any mountain bike... And a 700c rim is a tiny bit smaller then a 27" rim.

Yah, 29" isn't the rim size, it's the tire size [but not really]. They could have called them "27-ers" but olde-skool roadies might have got confused.

True that. I used to ride my mountain bike to school but then I got an "ok" road bike for free from my neighbors (moving out, no one wanted to by it so I just though, OK!) and some fun times followed. In the typical teenage attidtude, some guys called it "gay" so I raced them and beat them by over a minute (3 laps around the school).

Hehe, FS that pansys!

Anyways, yes, roadbike for commuting.
