A coworker approached me today seeking advice on a good route into the Shady Grove metro station. He would be coming from near the intersection of Goshen & Centerway roads. He is a neophyte cyclist so busy suburban feeder routes probably should be avoided.

Can away suggest appropriate roads to use?
How secure is the bike parking at the station? Is use of a bike locker recommended?

straight down centerway to snouffer school road. take a right onto woodfield rd to Midcounty hyway. make a left onto midcounty highway. keep straight until intersection at Shady grove rd. make a right and follow metro signs.

He can also take the 64 rideon bus at the corner of centerway and goshen to the metro station. This is the best option since he's a neophyte. Don't know about the bike lockers, but he can check the wmata.com website and it should have the information for the lockers and such.
