Introductions - New guy from Anaheim Calf

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi my name is Rick and I'm, trying to get back in shape. I'm 59 and eager to start peddling again. I bought a Cannondale R300 back in '97 at the advice of my Doctor. I was having back trouble and needed to work the legs and lower back. I couldn't walk more then15 feet before the legs gave out but I could ride .... managed to ride 20 miles a day for almost a year then had surgury on L3,4,5. After that I got lazy and didn't touch the bike till last week.
Needless to say I'm out of shape, over weight and strugglig right, now but plan to keep with it and enjoy riding once again.
I like what I see here and look forward to conversing.:)

Welcome fellow SoCal cyclist!
Have you ridden any of the Santa Ana River Trail? That's a good way to get into shape -- fairly easy ride and safe and smooth. You can pick it up in Anaheim and head out to Huntington Beach. We're planning to go from Riverside to Huntington over Labor Day weekend.
Have fun in these great forums too! There's a lot to learn on here.

Hi from another fellow OC rider.
Once you feel comfortable, look up and can join Bicycle Club of Irvine for rides (see bikeirvine.org). On Saturday they hold social rides starting with a newbie friendly short ride (15 miles). The first Saturday of each month we have a newbie ride especially for new riders.
If you have any questions, let me know.

If you still have back problems after physical therapy, back and ab exercises, and a good bike fit, consider a recumbent. When I lived in O.C. 6 years ago there was a great recumbent shop over on the east/central part of the county.

Thanks for the suggestion, all the years I have liver here, drove past it in the car .. I have never taken the bike on it. It will be a good place to start.
My Kodak moment came yesterday as I rolled up to the Intersection ... light was longer then I anticipated and I stopped .... forgot to kick out the foot ... as I slowly fell over :o ... the guy in the car must have wet himself laughing so hard. And there is no way to gracefully get out of the toe clip when the bike is on top of your foot! One intersectioon I can't ride in for awhile!!!!:(
