Commuting - Nicknames?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anyone else have nicknames for places along their commute? I have two at the moment. Mount Morning - a 190 foot climb in a little less than an half mile that I hit about 2.5 miles into my morning commute.
And the Refigerator - a half mile stretch along side the Chattahoocee river with so many trees that the pavement is always shaded and never heats up. It feels 10-15 degrees cooler through there with a nice breeze. It was 97 here and sunny sunnny sunny yesterday so I relished my time in the Fridge. :)
Wheelchair hill:
A VERY steep climb with a nursing home at the base of it. On my way to work in the morning I feel like I may as well be pushing up it with a wheelchair. On my way home if I'm not careful zipping down it to the traffic light at the base I may end up in a wheelchair.

None that are appropriate for polite company.
On a slightly related note my bike now has a name thanks to my son. Donkey after the character in shrek. *shrugs*

Not on my commute, but I've always called the bridges over Tampa Bay the Moron Zone!

Word.
Mine tend to be variations on the actual name of the road or community, injected with euphemisms for some of the deviant motor vehicle behaviorists that are on exhibit there.
None are anything I'd want to say out loud to people I know.
There's the Water Slide, because it reminds me of the water slides at amusement parks. It's a good descent (about 25 mph just coasting on an upright hybrid) that levels out across three four-lane cross streets and ends at a railroad underpass that occassionally floods.
There's also the Bobsled Run, a MUP detour (with a detour off the detour) under a bridge construction project. It's a granny gear slow section because of the super-tight turns. It's fenced close on both sides (as in grab yer bars close), and is always coated in a combination of mud, water and whatever oily stuff is dripping from the construction above. MTBers would call it technical. I call it fun. (So far, since I haven't crashed there yet.)
Further along, there's a section I call Euell Gibbons on account of all the roots, twigs and berries. Tough to stand on the pedals to ease the impact of the roots, because then you'll trim the trees with your face.
The rest aren't suitable for a family forum...

We have this idiotic spot right by REI's flagship store, it's at the intersection of two trails, the engineers lifted the trail up to meet the bridge across the river, and then you have to drop back down on a ramp with rails on each side that's BARELY wide enough for two bikes (if you're going VERY slow and carefully) and has *counts in his head* about 4 45 degree turns in it, going back and forth... then at the bottom, you jog to the right, make another series of 45 degree turns back and forth, then you finally hit the straight path on the other side.
I'm sure SOMEONE thought they were making things safer by forcing folks to slow down, but there's very limited sight distance, you have to wait behind anyone walking or pushing a stroller, since there really isn't enough room to go around, the turns on the flat frequently have loose dirt on them from people cutting the corner short and going off the trail, and you can't see anyone coming at all from the other side.
It's INSANE!
I did not name it, the cops did, but the name of the big curve on my road is called "Dead man's curve". We've lost 7 people on it in the last 5 years, and had countless wrecks. All since a baseball park was built just down the street from my drive.

LOL
I love that ramp. I can haul arse up and down it. However, I agree that waiting behind folks going up or down it is a tad annoying. That and other cyclists without decent bike handling skills tend to make me nervous. I scared one gentleman who was starting down the ramp while I was almost up it going at a fair speed. He almost fell over and a roadie by REI almost dropped on the ground laughing at the sight. *shrugs*
I'm still trying to determine why it was funny.

I have the WALL, on the Gandy bridge that crosses Tampa Bay. I call it the wall because it's a 120 foot climb in a 1/4 mile.
Not a bike nickname, but the #1 Lamar bus was known as the "Rolling Asylum" because it passed a bunch of state Mental Health and Mental *********** facilities and carried their clients to and fro.
(the state changed the department name in 2004 -- "***********" is out of vogue in clinical contexts)

The communities around here have nicknames.
Between, GA --aka Limbo, also The Twilight RFD
Monroe, GA --(vernacular pronunciation) MUN-ro, that rhymes with Fun-ro, also Mudville

Mine tend to be distance related, like "Mile-and-a-half bridge" or "five-mile curve", I guess that says something about what I'm focusing on when I ride.

When it rains hard, there's a low spot in the mall road I ride through where a huge puddle forms, about 20 feet around and 6" deep in the middle. When it's there, I call it Preposterous Puddle, after an episode of the British cartoon "Mouse and Mole". I ride through it with my legs lifted high and say " 'ello, Preposterous" in a faux British accent. :)
