Foo - More work troubles

Well, I just found out late yesterday that I'm getting laid off. This sucks. Seven years here and out the door in two weeks time. It's a business decision, and it makes sense, but it doesn't make it a whole lot easier when I just don't know where I'm going. And I turn forty in just over a week. This really sucks.

And, yes, I'm shamelessly panhandling for sympathy here, but if you can't turn to total strangers when you're feeling whiny, where can you turn?

Seven years and they're handing you walking paper? That sucks. How big of a raise did the officers & management get.

I'm very, very sorry to hear this. I was laid off just over three years ago after several months of late paychecks as my company went bankrupt. I was so tense through the whole time it felt like I constantly had to vomit.

I understand what you're going through, and you have my sympathy. I won't offer any advice since I'm sure you've heard it all, except that you should still get out on your bike and ride yourself to exhaustion - it will clear your mind and let you get some good sleep. Good luck.

Law. And thanks to our wonderful Texas legislature, ensuring that no one can ever be liable for anything (unless you're poor, in which case, go directly to jail), things may be a little scarce out there. Truth be told, I've been stable for long enough to where I really haven't been looking around. I had a sweet gig, and I suspect this is going to require a pay cut at least.

Time to leave Houston, it's a lousy town, anyway.

Sucks. Take some time to decompress, then start brainstorming with your network. Something will be apparent, and it'll all be sweet in the end :)

I'll try to give you a little hope. I saw the ship sinking where I worked as a mech. for 12 yrs. I got a job offer and took it before I got laid off. I worked that job for 7 yrs and changed jobs again at the first of this year.I really love the job I have now. Good guys to work with,a great boss,and I love the work(carpenter). Heck I just spent $100 on a Titanium Hammer. Don't get too down, you just may find yourself in a better place than you are now.

I may be switching jobs very soon. Not entirely by choice, but another situation has come along and I'm 99% sure I'm gonna grab it.

Im very sorry about your job. :( turning 40 is such a milestone too where you really start taking your financial future seriously. Hopefully another door will open for you and one that might bring you even better opportunities.
