Yes I agree that firearms would have more punch I think the idea is to have fun and keep it open to all to have fun. Airugns are cheap and even cheap airguns are good out 20 yards (pellet guns that is) and more pending the power. It has been said and I am starting to believe more that "accuracy is 10% the gun and 90% the shooter" ifI remember the saying right. Any gun can shoot good once you learn how the gun handles and you adjust to the gun and make htose minute changes. Just like driving cars. Each car drives differently as with bikes.

This is just an idea as I've never had any formal or competition experience but I think the ranges should be set to 10 meter, 30 meter, and 50 yards. If anyones breaking out the PCP or breakbarrel airguns that go 1000~1600 FPS (1600 for the new Gamo) then there could be a 100 yard setup as those guns would carry far. Tho I feel that most airguns would be in the 50rd range. Even the cheap guns have an accuracy of around 20yds and max range of ~50-100 max.

For some cheap guns that work well with a tune up www.xisicousa.com (I have no affliation to the company) for a good price and metal/wood when Crosman's of the same price are all plastic. Accuracy isn't bad and the power, well lets just say it can punch soup cans far out the 10meter range.

Now I know many folks are in the US of A but if anyone is game on setting up something in Canada (Ontario please ^_^ ) let me know. I'd love to attend and am sure the local gunners would love to try it out as well.

The bicycling-archery combination could work well if participants used takedown bows. This cyclist carries his takedown bow and arrows quite easily. www.quicksarchery.co.uk/superbasket/product.php?product=719

Part of the task would be rapid bow assembly and takedown, so might favor recurves with limbs that slip into the riser without need for bolts.

Sir, I would like to challenge that and introduce you to Hi-Point firearms, made in Sunny Dayton, OH. Where you can get a new 9mm pistol for $99. The ghetto guys love em.

I have said before that I would never shoot one of those without a welding helmet on.

werd for a bike-shoot-athon. I think .22's or .17's though

we do something similar to the ride/shoot thing here in seattle:

go for a spin downtown, and when a large SUV cuts you off, just 'shoot' them with a nice loogie.

extra points if you make in an open window!

a cyclo biatholon would be very epensive. First of all you won't be using an air rifle outside. Just to suseptable to wind. Most likely the people who are serious will be using an Aunsuntz (sp) .22 LR, pretty much the gold standard in competition rifles. That will set you back about $6000. Add a bike on top of that lets say $3000-4000. You are going to have to have many events with prize money to make that up pushing the $10,000 mark that would make this an elitist sport. The other consideration is that you would have to be in prime shape. You have to get your heart rate down below 60% before you take that first shot. Anything higher and you will consistently miss.

Biatheletes wear special clothing for cross country skiing that includes some sort of stiffining on their off hand to help with shooting. You couldn't ride like that very easily.

Sounds great. Shooting is one of my hobbies. So is cross country skiing and biking. I would be in heaven, but I don't think a bikeiathalon is in the cards.

Curry, that's a damn nice Anschutz you quoted above. They have a number of models and most are far less than 6K. As with any sport you find the folks willing to deal. When I was doing Biathlon I picked up my Anschutz 1427 (at the time their better biathlon specific model) for under a thousand.

Come on now folk, most of us are in AMERICA. Land of the Free and the NRA. Find a place like my brothers' way out in the hills with all his steep dirt trails. Rig a rack for your 400 Wetherby Magnum on the handlebars of your MTB and go for it. You get to keep all the wild pigs you can kill.

You do not have to get your pulse rate down much, just time the trigger pull to the right point in your pulse.

ROFLMAO... Do you buy gold plated rifles or something?!

.22 Anschutz Match 54 Rifle. I bought it for £60 (that would be around $120 in yankeedoodles), rifles go for the £400 - £800 mark usually, and even if you want the best of the best, involving Gemini stocks (that a friend of mine has, so nice to shoot with!!!) your looking at £1300 - £1500 ($2600 to $3000) tops.. not £3000 ($6000) like your estimate.

$4500 to start for a real high quality Anschutz Fortner action biathlon rifle. That's a base price on a Fortner action (think a speed-pull bolt rather than a lift-cock-press bolt) and they don't like to cut deals at all because they know that they have the best. At least that's how our Canadian rep treats it, and there's only one in the entire country of 36 million! erg!
I am actually a biathlete and have trained on a bike alot with my group in training for Canada Winter Games this year. We do do Biathalon-Bie races but we don't carry the guns :p too dangerous. I almost wish we'd race on the bikes rather than skis, I'm a much better cyclist than I am a skier haha.

It does not have to be world class competition. It just has to be fun. Let the top shooters in the world buy the expensive guns, the rest, there are lots of less expensive ways to have fun. (The same for over 2000USD bikes)

How about a circular route using paint guns where all players start out of shooting range from the other players. Last one standing wins. There would be some challange in being able to shoot and keep in shooting range of your target simultaneously.

Or everyone could start together and some time would have to pass before the shooting could begin.

Or just use paint on your hand and when you get your color of paint on everyones but you win. Cheep and fun.
