maillot jaune on the road after a horrible day in the alps where he conceded 10 minutes.

that's the mark of a champion, guys. he's getting no help and asking for none.

that's what seperates guys like landis from candy-asses like bobby julich and also-rans who always find a way to lose like hincapie.

Forza Floyd Landis!

This has really been an entertaining race this year. End of domination by disco has really opened the door for others. Floyd's effort today has been epic!

"Yellow Jersey For A Six-Pack Of Beer

After Floyd Landis regained the lead of the Tour de France at the top of L’Alpe d’Huez he decided that he wanted a beer to celebrate the moment. On the road down to his hotel, his team car pulled over and the American traded a yellow jersey for a six-pack of beer with a spectator."

Maybe that's why he bonked - he had a hangover!:D

This is like Chiapucci in 1992 on the way to Sestriere, only better!

<whinny voice>hey this is a spoiler...you should be banned...then burned at the cross...then peed on. Damn you people posting spoilers</whinny voice>

Ok sorry back to reality. Guy has a pair and today he is using them...seriously though he had to do something, he wasn't going to get 8 min or whatever in the TT. Even if he "only" gets 4 or 5 min back today he still has a shot at the podium with a great TT. Lets hope he doesn't crack and if he doesn't that this effort doesn't significantly impact his TT performance.

Well he won the stage...but 5:35 on Sastre has Sastre ahead of him by 0:47...keep in mind Floyd took 1:10 out of Sastre in the other ITT. I can't wait to watch the TT on Sat now.

Who said this TdF was going to be boaring?

So unless something really wierd happens on a pretty flat stage tomorrow or into Paris which they don't race for the GC right? Anyway that brings us 3 riders with a shot going into the final TT. Pereiro, Sastre 0:11 back and Flandis 0:31 back. Kloden is 2:29 back and I don't buy that he is going to take 2 min out of Floyd in the TT.

Did anyone catch the announcers call Floyd Flandis yesterday...I was like cool they read BF. :D

God. Truly an epic stage. This is why the TDF is so great, so compelling.

Everyone was writing Landis off. I left for a doctor appointment at 9 a.m. Landis had already broken away and had dropped the original breakaway. The doctor had heard about Landis' bonk yesterday but I told him to hang on because Landis was trying to ride himself back into the race today. When I got back, Landis was on the the final climb over 5 minutes ahead. Simply awesome. I don't know who is the best rider in the TdF but I know who has the most heart and who wants to win it the most. That became pretty obvious day. Awesome.

I felt so down last nite watching Flandis lose all of that time. It was PAINFUL watching him get passed by riders that had been so far down the mountain.

I then read his interview on cyclingnews.com this morning and thought to myself, "Man, that's one classy dude."

I can't wait to get home tonite to watch today's stage. Even knowing the outcome won't make it any less fun.

What Landis did today is simply inspirational. I almost had tears in my eyes watching him today. As I was explaining to my wife, the most important thing to me about sports in general is the real inspiration one can see and draw upon in sportsmen/women who simply refuse to "quit and die" (especially after huge set-backs). That is what separates "champions" from "also-rans".

Folks, I really do not care If Landis wins the 2006 Tour de France anymore, (although it would be nice) what he did today will be remembered for a long time.

To me, he is already a champion.

I absolutely agree. Landis not only made me feel proud that I ever straddled a bicycle seat, but more importantly, he made me feel proud as a human being. He just "sucked it up" big time, and went to work. And did you notice he gave absolutely no excuse for his blow-out yesterday. This kind of performance is what great-grandpas tell their grandchildren, and how proud and fortunate they were to witness such exquisite and gutsy performance.

Folks, we just caught a little glimpse of greatness.

And to think he did it on a bum hip! And without help from his team! All 100% Landis!

Good stuff.

I have to admit, I was excited about his efforts, and floored when he was up over 9 minutes, but when I saw that time start tumbling, in the back of my mind I was thinking he would probably lose it all on the final climb.

I'm 45 years old and was jumping up and down on my living floor like some kind of lunatic for the last 90 minutes of watching the stage this morning. And crying. And screaming.

It was simply unbelievable.

And then he squeezed out almost 45 seconds from Sastre on the final descent. WOW.

I personally feel a little ashamed. After yesterdays stage where he bonked and list 10 minutes and the lead, i gave up hope. I called a friend and told him that Floyd was out of it. I had given up hope in Floyd to win the Tour.
Today i walked into class after a lunch break and my professor stood up and said, " Ben, Did you hear about Floyd Landis? He won the stage and made up huge amounts of time to bring him back into 3rd place overall. I stood up and began to dance and swivell my hips and made whooping shouts of joy.

So ride Floyd and ride hard, I will never give up on you again.

Your achievement on stage 17 was monumental. Your perseverence and training made this possible. On the summit of the Col De Joux Plane even the French cheered you.
