Since America seems to have a day/week/month for darn near everything, I propose a nationwide day of bicycle pie rides. Goal would be for every bike club in America or what the heck, the world to have a "pie ride" on one day of the year. I would propose that the day would be September 23, the ride would have to be between 15 and 30 miles, and have a mid-way stop for PIE!

Lets here it for thsi new concept in pie marketing!

I would suggest instead of a fixed date, the fourth Saturday of September each year.

I second this... Especially since it would be agreat time for apple pie, or maybe some early season pumpkin pie... maybe both. :D

Amen! Write your Congresspersons. Or at least your state LAB organization. Hey, maybe we can get Baker's Square behind it...

At the very least, we can make it a 50+ tradition.

I'm on vacation in New Mexico in TaosWoman's territory. I'm learning to really enjoy the red and green sauces they like to put on everything. We've got to come up with a new mexican pie that has the sauces on it..........then we could use it as the December pie and call it the Christmas pie and use both the red and green sauces at the same time.

JPPE - they already have one though I contend its not real Mexican food (having grown up in the western and southern parts of Texas)....they call it quesadillas. But wait a minute. If we used a layer of flour tortillas instead of graham cracker crust with lots of butter, and put black beans, barbacoa, and real goat cheese in the middle, that might work.

Here's the green sauce recipe. I make a mean green sauce !!

Cut the end off of how ever many jalepenos you think you will need. Cut the seeds out of about half of them. {Be real careful here and don't rub your eyes for a day or so**. Wash and cut stems off tomatillas and slice them in half. Add tomatillas and jalepenos in about a 50/50 blend. If you have some habanero or chile pequins, consider adding them here for a little hot flavor. Add some salt, maybe a little water, a little white vinegar, and puree in the blender. A little bit of sugar can be added to mellow it out. Use a metal spoon to sample. You don't actually taste it, what you do is stick the spoon in and if it oxidizes and corrodes then its good to go.

When you're finished with the green sauce put the toilet paper in the ice box. You're gonna need it.

For red sauce use tomatoes instead of tomatillas, or use somebodya else's recipe.

Since I'll be leading 20 landscape architecture students around Germany in September, this will be our goal for that day: to find a great pie shop on the outskirts of Bonn, ride our bikes there & all eat pie (kuechen). Will post pics the next day.

This makes it an 'international tradition', right?:p

OK, its set then, the fourth Saturday of September each year is here-by designignated by me as Pie Ride Day(anybody got a better name? Like Bike-Pie-Human Interface Memorial Day?). I claim the right to make this proclamation by right of first thought He He. I will let all of our local club members of such. I for one will be looking for the best semi-near pie outlet for that ride.

I think this should be limited to 50+'rs!

it takes 50+ years of living to realize just how important pie really is...mature appreciation of aesthetic and sensory qualities is so much more refined

Could we designate the 24 hours of Pie Ride Day for different pies?

7:00 am Egg custard pie
8:00 am kidney pie
9:00 am key lime pie
etc.

Ride for the pie, ride with pride, it's all good.

Congrats dgregory57 on your new commuting venture!

Thanks! I appreciate the encouragement.

But, it is not really too big a deal at about 2.5 miles. Heck, I have walked to work several times... so this will be easier than that... The advantage is it will be far more regular than my walking has been, and it will beat driving.

As I draw ever nearer my 50th year, I plan to live the second half of my life better than the first half. :D

DO NOT BRING THIS UP AGAIN UNTIL AFTER SEPTEMBER!!!!!!

We could have a debate each year... After the date in September, I think it would be easy to agree that 3/14 is the right day... Then after 3/14 we would of course debate that we should return to the original tradition. But we can only fool ourselves this way if we forget about the previous dates and only accept the one that is next on the calendar.

Of course some day, we will just decide that we are tired of the debate and have two special days, BIPPIE and BIPPIe...

:D
