Just thought I would pass along my comparison between these two pedals. I am new to Mountain biking and started with some Time Atac carbon pedals and new cleats. I found them very easy to clip into with a positive engagement, and they felt very stable under foot. I found it very difficult to unclip when my foot was at the top of the stroke. I just installed some new Shimano 540's and they are the opposite. Much more searching to clip into, but very easy to pull the escape cord. They are set at factory tightness. I feel the foot move around more when pedalling, and sometimes my foot only partially engages, but they will stay on the bike for the time being, as a sure exit is my only concern at this point. Maybe a little fiddling with the position of the cleat will make them second nature when clipping in.
