I justed started getting into road biking and I bought a Fuji Ace. I like to know what others think of this bike for potential racing. It has 21 gears and weighs about 25 lbs. I am wondering should I invest in a slightly more expensive bike, around 1200 dollars or keep this one.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you're just getting into to road riding, I think you should focus on training, fitness, bike fit, and mot importanly having fun. Join a club and go on some group rides. Start learning how to ride in a paceline. Experience will then tell you how far and in what direction you need to upgrade.

The Ace is an entry-level road bike, and not really optimized for racing. But then, if you're new at this, you probably aren't either. And even after you're ready to upgrade, you'll be glad to have a backup bike for sloppy training rides or for use on the indoor trainer.

The only problem I see with the Ace is the Sora gruppo is not suited to shifting from the drops...whether this is a significant factor for you depends on the aggresiveness of your riding style. Your next bike should have Shimano 105 or better (or the Campy equivalents) if you want to race. The Fuji Roubaix has the 105 components and is about in the price range you suggested. Perhaps your LBS would be open to a trade-in?
