General Cycling Discussion - Tampa Bay- Salt air= rust?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am going to USF in Tampa in the spring and I was wondering if anybody here lives near salt air and what they do about keeping their bikes from rusting. Thanks for any advice.

Prevailing wind direction will be major factor. I live near the Ocean, but the winds usually blow much of the salt in the air out to sea.

Keep it clean, then it's not that big an issue.
I only noticed rust in places on my bike that got submerged. Wh they got submerged....somedays the rainfall is just that bad.

I often ride near the beach/bay (winds almost always blowing in from the ocean) and the only precaution I take is wiping down the bike after I ride. The only rust I have noticed is on bolts (stem bolts, derailleur bolts, etc).
Thanks for the info. I'm glad there's nothing special that needs to be done.
