Foo - AHHH people piss me off

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I was at orchard supply buying some painting crap and I turn and notice this guys yelling at an employee. I tune in and notice the guy screaming at the worker saying "if you didn't know, why didn't you just say no". I assume he'd asked a question and the worker attempted to answer it, then he went to find the actual answer. The guy had a bit of an accent, probably from the phillipines. The guy proceeds to say to the worker "We are straightforward, we tell the truth, thats how we do it in America". The worker was obviously embarassed beyond belief, and he was stumbling on his words because he didn't know how to reply. The ignorant sack of meat kept on saying the phrase "thats how we do it in america".
OMGOSH, I'm kind of mad at myself. I really wanted to go over there and have a word with that piece of shlt person who was giving him a hard time. I wanted to let him know "in america" we aren't rude once we become adults. Geeze, I can't believe how rude and inconsiderate people are.

I can understand that in the Bay area jackasses might get a little bit more agitated by all the immigrants, but sheesh. In Michigan I believe that would have been ethnic intimidation which is punished with jail time.
Well the thing is in the bay area, the asians are the majority. We all have to learn to deal with it, plus the guy looked new at the job and was just trying his best. He had an accent, but spoke english just fine. The dude giving him a hard time was either tongan or samoan, now you know why I didn't go over there and say anything :) Didn't feel like getting decked.
Sounds to me like the guy getting yelled at gave a customer an incorrect answer rather than finding someone that could provide a correct answer for the customer. If this is the case, he put the establishment's reputation in jeopardy to protect his own ego, and he deserved a good dressing down. The racial implications are irrelevent, and are a good indication of what the hell is wrong with this country.

I think you are reading way too much into this, and are making assumptions without having heard what went down. The guy was trying his best to help the guy and he was being a rude ignorant ahole, plain and simple.
I thought AHHH was an acronym. Time for another carbomb

Only time I ever got mad like that was when I was at a TK noodle, and even the cashier and manager did not understand english enough to understand my complaint.
Oh, and nothing is more annoying as a guy than getting hit on repeatedly in a club by some giant samoan guy....even worse while you are trying to talk to a woman, he butts in "Hey sexy, wanna dance" :(
If this is the case, he put the establishment's reputation in jeopardy to protect his own ego, and he deserved a good dressing down.
Perhaps true, but the dressing down should come from his manager, in private, not from some neanderthal moron yelling in public over some perceived injustice.
Your attitude that this is OK is what's wrong with this country!
There's no excuse to be rude and do that to someone, thats how I feel.

Can we assume you are white? The racial implications are the only relevent issue here. Saying "this is how we do it in america" to an asian american is racist. Whatever mistake the guy made was because he was an idiot, not because he wasn't an american.

why do you hate freedom?
We don't hate it. We miss it.
why do you hate freedom?I'd like the freedom to drink when I've learn the responsibility to do so. I'd want the freedom to drive my car at the limits of its capabilities given sufficient training to do so. I want my sister to have the freedom to wear whatever she wants to clubs and parties and be able to walk down dark alleys without having to worry about being mugged and raped. I want the freedom to jump from perfectly good airplanes and go rock-climbing without worry knowing that the taxes I have paid will take care of my medical expenses if I slipped.

I agree with everything but that last statement. Your taxes don't go to cover your medical expenses. Why would you think they do?? That logic of entitlement is another thing wrong with this country. YOU assume the risk, YOU pay the piper, if required.

Oh god...i HATE people like that,
Especially when you are the person who is working. I havent had a situation exactley like this one, but one of the stores I work in, there was a snoody women who was trying to get a gift for her friend who was going to have a baby soon. She kept asking me the same question, over and over not listening.
I finally had it and had my boss deal with her

Good one. Did you miss the point where the OP said this in the thread?
"The dude giving him a hard time was either tongan or samoan, "
So a Tongan or Samoan dressing down an Asian or Filipino using the phrase "this is how we do it in America" is racist?
Are you ******** or were you just not paying attention? More often than not racism isn't the problem, people looking for racism is, and I'd be willing to make a small wager that I've had more "sensitivity" and "racial relations" training than you have.
Perhaps true, but the dressing down should come from his manager, in private, not from some neanderthal moron yelling in public over some perceived injustice.
Your attitude that this is OK is what's wrong with this country!
As a professional I agree entirely with you that the dressing down should come from the manager and more importantly in private. I never said it was OK, I was looking at it from a different perspective. I've been accused of making assumptions without being there. Hm...I made assumptions and drew a conclusion based on what was posted, and based on experience in dealing with people in different work environments. Of course I'm making assumptions, just like the OP.
Why do people post things like this and then get upset when everyone doesn't agree with their point of view?

I wonder why the customer felt he had to ream the guy a new one? Seems like managers are all too willing to do that themselves. Seems to me like the customer should've gone to the manager and made a formal complaint if it was really that serious of a mistake. Its not like somebody died because they got the wrong size screwdriver.
I'm not entirely certain it was a customer based on the OP. I mean it may have been, and in that case the employee should have got his manager to deal with the issue. Sometimes customers are true pains in the arse, and sometimes retail employees shouldn't be left out where they have to deal with customers. Reading back over the thread, maybe it was a customer, and in that case I'm afraid that I very well may have stepped in on the emplyee's behalf. I'd be willing to take a punch in exchange for an assault charge. Sorry if this is clearly the case and I misunderstood it.
The racial implications are still crap though.

It's called group think.
So a Tongan or Samoan dressing down an Asian or Filipino using the phrase "this is how we do it in America" is racist?
Of course, they are not the same race, and this person was suggesting that the asian was not an american because of his race. If a black or hispanic person did it, it would still be racism.
I'd be willing to make a small wager that I've had more "sensitivity" and "racial relations" training than you have
What bit of logic did you use to come to that conclusion?

If you have taken any sociology or multi-cultural studies, then you would know that a racist is a person who enjoys the benefits of the majority. The term you are looking for is racism or racial prejudice. Another term that may fit could be all-weather bigot.
As to pheard's post, don't you just hate anal retentives.

YOU assume the risk, YOU pay the piper, if required.I was pointing out freedoms other countries have that we don't. Drinking at 13-14years, unlimited speed-limits (TUV-approved vehicle), social ethics & manners, and healthcare. We don't pay it with taxes for ourselves, but we certainly pay to cover emergencies services for others and illegal aliens. Ends up costing us twice as much per person for healthcare as it does the Europeans. The "freedom" reaction that guy posted is the brain-washed masses.

Everything thing I've said is just my opinion. You've got to be kidding me Ms. Polly Prissy pants, I haven't gotten upset with anyones responses. I could care less if anyone agrees with me.
Man, I have to know what asumptions you see in my opinions. I think the guy was rude and acted like a 10 year old kid in a play yard, where is the asumption?

One sign of bad management is inadequate employee training.
There seems to be yelling as a part of that too.

Often times a customer knows that the company policy is to kiss the customer's butt. They often times will take advantage of that and it doesn't matter what color they are. It's the point of not losing the customer. They know that an employee will be too afraid for their job to react in any negative way.
