Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I just bought a used shiver. Unfortunately, I think I need a drop crown. My question is: How far into the top crown do the uppers of the shiver need to go? On the outside side of th ecrown where th euppers go through, they go all the way through and out by about 1 or 2 mm. On th einside of the hole they come short of going all th eway through by about a third of an inch.
Is this ok or doi I need drop crowns. I need to knw asap.
Thanks
You'll be safer with a dropped crown. If you look at the pinch bolts, they are located up even with the part of the crown taper that your uppers don't quite reach into. Tightening could distort the bore and it won't give optimum clamping surface.
Do you already have a line on a dropped crown? I think White Bros and maybe BETD make them.
If I have to get a drop crown, I think I may sell the fork. My lbs said they were $150. Do any of youguys know where I could find one cheaper?
