Yes and No. Depending on how abusive you are it may be fine. But it is very much a XC bike.

nothing too big I'm just a beginner, maybe down the road up to 5 ft. drops , but thats way down the road.

I would get new shocks, maybe RST Sigma's theres one on Jensonusa.com its $299. I know thats cheap but I think its good enough for a beginner.

If you are freeriding look at Marzocchi. If you have 300$ o spend you can get dj's or even save a little more and get z1's. Rst's are crap.

The bike should be able to handle 5 footers but again being aluminum meant for xc the combined effect of all of those drops will wear it out.

thanks for the info, I didn't know I could get DJ's for 300 bucks, is that on ebay?

No the dj3 2003 is around that price on jenson and many others...

Thats the dj 2. you can even go cheaper and get the dj 3. :)

The dj3 is nice with 130 mm travel for only $259. they will handle light freeriding easily.
