Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I broke my hip.
It still gives me trouble, and if anything bumps it I usually fall down due to pain.
Also, the doctor says I'll need it replaced by the time I'm 35. Hurray for life threatening hobbies

Life threatening? There are several BikeForums members with hip replacements who ride.... and ride a lot of miles, to boot. Almost all said that upon hip replacement that their chronic pain ceased. It was the build up of new muscle mass that was the focus of recovery. I tried a search (but having trouble with the BF search function, go figure), but if you look around, you'll catch a thread or two on hip replacements, or if you want, start a thread in the appropriate cycling sub-forum and you'll get some good encouragement.
A lot of hobbies are life threatening. The worst is sitting on the couch. Good luck with your hip!
[edit.... Here's a post from a guy who rides a lot.... http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=163077&highlight=replacement ]

awwww... yicks, much luck to you! big hug!
If it will be your first major surgery I can see the anxiety. Pain is different to each person. When you need more medication than Rush Limbaugh and still cannot sleep it is past time to get the surgery.
I have made the decision to have my 31st surgery in August. It is not life threatning, but complications could leave me blind.
What life threatening hobbies do you participate in?
