Sorry Shiner fans... but that stuff is a pretty poor showing for beer. Funny how Texas is so darn proud of it. Of course with Texas heat, it is no wonder that so many of their beers are lagers and pilsners... if you can call them even that... "lite" anything just sort of misses the target.

In that area though I would have hoped that a Weihenstephan (http://www.brauerei-weihenstephan.de/index.php?page=home_2_1&) might have made it to Floyd's hand. Very nice brew indeed!

Personally I am quite partial to Stone Ales (http://www.stonebrew.com/index2.php)... brewed just down the road from Floyd's new adopted home in Murrieta, CA.

But that is just a dream... not likely they would be found in France...

If it were I... Gueuze Bécasse... but that would have required a trip to Brussels. I suppose otherwise perhaps a Meteor.

Shiner bock is good. I liked it when I had it when I visited Texas.

Didn't think it would be a Shiner that he picked up after the Stage 16 bonk. It's hard enough finding the stuff outside of Texas let alone on the side of a mountain in France.

Shiner fills a niche in the beer continuum. I like it because the brewer has not overwhelmed the beer taste with hops. It is not an especially good example of bock but it is a nice summertime beer. I have to believe that it is so popular in Texas because it is brewed in Texas and actually tastes like beer, unlike Lone Star.

Beer aficionados don't usually like Shiner complaining of a lack of nose and a thin head. Real beer drinkers don't worry about that stuff. They just drink it and enjoy it. Beer is like music; you can know so much about it that it keeps you from enjoying it.
