alright so i've been doing all the research and whatnot...and my lbs is offering me an 07 rockhopper for $600. Is this a good deal? If i go for it...what else should I buy when I go in there? all i plan on getting right now is the bike and a helmet.....

That's not nearly enough info about the bike. A components list would help give people a better idea of what value you're getting.

Go to the Specialized site to see base modle prices. Im getting an 07 Comp for $880 ($941 w/taxes).

bad deal, unless specialized raised their prices for '07 by $80. The '06 base rockhopper was $520

Flair1111, you mean comp disc rite?? $880 for a regular comp is kinda high

High? 880$ is the MSRP and its a 2007 model which isn't even out "officially", why would it be "kinda high".

I just bought a base model 2007 Rockhopper for $500, I don't know if that'll help at all? Maybe comparison wise.

He said comp in his first post, not comp disc. Therefore, $880 is high for a regular comp without disc brakes. He clarified it already in a follow-up post.

i would think specialized dropped the "disc" out for comp because all specialized bikes have discs at the comp level nowadays. there's only a few mountain bikes on their line for 06 that come with v's: stumpjumper (base), rockhopper (base), hardrock sport, p.street, and fsrxc (not counting kid's and women's mtb).
