Mountain Biking - '05 Marzocchi Drop Off Triple Fork

Just wondering if this is a decent fork or not? I would use it for freeriding.

Steerer tube is 8 1/4 inch. also the top crown has holes for direct mount.

It's not a terrible fork by any means, it's basically a Z1 made longer and double crowned.

It's more of a beginner or low end dual crown fork, but it's still leaps and bounds ahead of some forks (namely, the Manipoo stance kingpin, at 170 mm).

Don't put it on a hardtail though.

Don't put it on a hardtail? Just curious...why not? (Sorry I'm kind of new to alot of this stuff.)

I have a Jr. T on my hardtail, its holding up just fine. Infact I have 3 other friends with DC's on a hardtail. I guess he means, be smart. I wouldent go over 170mm on any hardtail, and some frames shouldent even have 170mm of travel on them. It depends on the frame...dont put that fork on a Trek 4500 or something like it. But the fork could go on more burlier built bikes made for abuse like the Banshee Morphine and others.

But its not just hardtails. Some people say DC forks are just for full suspensions, but there is limits there too.

So, when it comes down to it, be careful what you put that fork on.

Let's say, just for kicks, it's an '06 Rockhopper. Does the amount of travel hurt the bike somehow? Is it because of too much rebound?

Usually people follow the plus or minus 20 mm when upgrading their forks. I have heard of people putting a 150 mm fork on a hardrock. I think it would mess with how fast you can turn and most likely mess with your head tube angle. Other than that i don't see why you can't do it. If you do we need to see some pics

EDIT: Another question (Thanks for being patient with me) Would it be able to adjust to make it fit better?

If it is adjustable to 150mm would that be a little more realistic? Because it is.

I don't get the 'don't put a DC on a hardtail' mantra . . . we must live differently out here in the Pac NW. People put dual crowns on anything. As far as geometry, the slacker the better, to a point, I suppose. If you are really concerned, drop the crowns down the stanchions a bit (just be careful of your overall axle-to-crown length and don't overdo it).

So basically comparing these two forks which one would be better. Putting money aside.

I screwed up the comparison. I took the one fork from the wrong RockHopper model. So my question REALLY should be. Which is better? (Once again, not thinking money wise, although I think they're both around the same price)

I've seen so many people blow up drop off triples.

One guy shot the stanctions into his bars from landing a double to hard.

so basically it would be stressing and damaging to the frame and it would thereby decrease the lifespan of it if I put the drop off triple onto my rockhopper?

That's what I'm gathering, tell me if I'm wrong. (I wouldn't mind being wrong about this one)
