Advocacy & Safety - One site, multiple accidents

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'll second that motion. Being a half continent away is still too close.
PCH and Beach in Dana Point. Have to keep that one in mind.

A couple sentences I found interesting.
Thompson was not wearing a helmet, but his bike had a light on it. He died of massive head trauma, Amormino said.
If you don't wanna wear a helmet, that's fine. Those two sentences seal the deal for me, though. I will keep my lid on me.
"I believe that in the two accidents there, the drivers were intoxicated," Amormino said. "I think in both cases neither the women or the victim yesterday would have been hit if the drivers were not impaired."
I think some real solutions need to be made for drunk driving. DUI enforcement doesn't seem to be discouraging the idiots. I've always wondered how we can get the idiots to not hurt the non-idiots...
If you don't wanna wear a helmet, that's fine. Those two sentences seal the deal for me, though. Oh God.... WHY?? Would a sequence like "The victim was not carrying rabbit foot and died" convince you that you should carry a rabbit foot on every ride?

Reading this stuff makes me deprressed but it makes me galvenized in the cause of getting pedestrians and cyclist alike safer places to travel out side the paths of traffic I don't want to be just a statistic or a news report
I see they updated the news story, that bike looks nasty. Tonight they said the girl blew double the legal limit. They should have more cops there on the stretch while construction is going on. Law is that traffic fines double in construction zones. Seems a way to keep it safe and generate excess revenue.

Sad, sad, sad!!!! Extremely sad for the victim and his family!!!
Also a very sad commentary on DUI enforcement in areas along Pacific Coast Hwy, particularly in popular areas like Dana Point. It could have been me or many of us that ride those roads!
My condolences to the victims family. I have a close friend who lost his 19 year old daughter to a drunk driver and it changed his life forever and not for the better. Sometimes the survivors live their life with the question: "If I had only - fill in the blank -!
We should all make it our duty for the "good citizen" to report erratic drivers to the police as possible "impaired drivers". Safer for us all! That life you save might be your own, a friend or family member nor should it really matter. Save a life!!!!
