Mountain Biking - Pix of my new bike. Have questions, help!

Here's my new Trek fuel ex 6. I only tried riding it for about 30 seconds. i will ride it later. I think the rear shock is on lockout or something, and I dont know how to unlock it!? When I first rode it, I heard a loud creak noise, maybe by the rear shock. (Im not sure if it even has lock-out)

Oh wait no it doesnt have lock-out lol. I couldn't make it budge. I dont want to break it.

[Edit] Nvm, I just went out and its just stiff. But its awesome!!! Its so much stiffer then squishy Bruiser. And air forks are so much nicer. I can't wait when I go out later.



The brakes are not nearly as powerfull as Bruiser even though they're both MX1's, and dang the sram shifters are different lol. Thumbs in two locations heh. This is my first non all-AL bike frame material, first 9 speed, first air suspension. Its sweet:D

Air forks...aren't nicer. Maybe better than what you had :)


check the air ... there could be more air in there than you need. Which is why it feels super stiff...there should be "some" negative travel on it

I just got back from a 2 mile ride, and wow im amazed. Its insane up hills, it rolls really fast, and I have twice as much control on it then the Bruiser. The only thing I dont like is that I'm leaning way to forward. My arms are incredibly sore, and my hands hurt because I have so much weight on the grips. I think Ill wear gloves now. I wonder if I can tilt the seat backwards more.

Most of it is probably due to the fact that the geometry is more XC oriented than your Bruiser.

I was just out for one and a half hours, and Ive gotten use to it. The rear shock is a bit too stiff, but other then that its an awesome bike on and off road. The tires are pretty cool too. I went over a huge puddle and not one drop of water flew up at me. HOt damn it goes freakin FAST.

$1500 at uh my bike shop. Well I got 950 credit from Bruiser. But with tires and tax it was alot:eek:

looks like a nice bike. and that looks like a really nice/big house also. if i had a house like that i would be riding around a turner flux built up from the frame :)

that is a pretty sweet ride though. and i bet it is friggen fast.

Air should come out of the shock the same way you get air out of a tube with a Schraeder valve. But go buy a shock pump and then tell your LBS you want the manual for the shock. Or go to the RockShox site download the manual. The gate controls the threshold release of the Motion Control. The setting of the gate depends on your weight and riding style/preferences.

what are your impressions of the maxxis crossmarks? i've heard good and bad things about them...

i see you've got the same fork, brake levers and shifters as i do, too. you're riding with clipless pedals with a little plastic thing - that's meant for people trying out the bike, no? it's gonna break off after a few rides.

is that a deore top-swing i see as the front derailleur?

I dont mild the pedals, but I love cage kinds. And yeah thats a deore one. Im not tooo impressed with it. Its slow on shifting and yesterday it derailed the chain to the bottom bracket area. The shifters work great. But the tires are sweet. It has massive traction on cement. Maybe 2x as much as my Hansventures. It corners pretty well. The coolest part is if Im going over puddles, not one drop of water is thrown upon me:D

I just got the bike out of the shop and will be on the trails tomorrow morning.

I had a new tube put in (hate those damn goat head thorns) and my bombshell pedals put on.

Just over 160 miles on the bike and everything seems to be well adjusted.
I'm thinking about a MTB vacation in Utah this September.

Slide your saddle back a centimeter or two and then try it again.

I had a little over 160, and tonight I ran the river run (exactly 30mi) but don't really count it because it's just a regular bike path.

The decals are cheap but high quality (actually free for me). My brother has a little side gig on EBay.
