I decided to take my chain off today, and see how I liked riding without it.
The spot I ride at is about half a mile from home, so it took a while to push with my foot to get there, but it wasn't too bad. I rolled up the bank there and rolled back out, the first time I just jumped off the back. The next time I tried to half cab out, and ate **** pretty well. Turns out I use pedal pressure a whole lot for half cabs, and when there's no hub to hook up, I smack into the bars and flip over.

I got a little better at it, not nearly as smooth as with the chain yet, but it's fun as hell to just roll along the road backwards without having any way of slowing down, and not having to backpedal.

Try it if you haven't.

That would be scary on a big bike.

I might ride the park tomorrow without the chain, I already can't do much so I might as well give it a shot. But I should finish with my bike, I felt like modding it today so I started to sand off the paint and saw off the brake mounts, just because. I might either clear coat it or paint it a different color, because if you just leave it unpainted it starts to rust in a few weeks doesn't it?

I think I'll save a few steps and just go in my garage, pick up a claw hammer, & pound my nuts with it.

and why ride chainless?
oh, I get it, its to crash more sounds like fun to me.

It's a challenge, and for ****s and kicks it's fun.

I broke my chain at the park and said **** it, I can still hit the same lines so I rode without it and tried it a few more times.

Ride crankless its way better than chainless.

I snapped my chain tonight so I'm chainless too but not by choice. I developed a nice healthy limp afterward so was in no mood to ride but I just might go try it tommorow just for the h*ll of it. :D

Recommendations on a durable chain? Mine was only two months old.

Chainless is fun...i've tried it a few times. but DUSTIN GRIESS is the master of chainless... as thus.

http://www.interbmx.com/users/1/images/griess_turndown.JPG

He STILL DOMINATED while chainless....tailwhips...flairs.....5 taps....everything insane, as usual.

Nice.

I rode street chainless today, partly because I lost a piece from my master link. I might buy a new chain, since mine was kind of smashed up anyway. I couldn't ride some stuff due to not enough speed, and it sure wears you out pushing up hills.

You don't really need a master link. Just break the chain together. I did that when i bought my new chain. I did it for the hell of it.

MadMan2k
07-27-06, 09:21 PM
It won't fit unless I grind the dropouts out more, which I might do anyway. Or get a half link or something.

Haha, yeah thats basically what happened to me when my chain snaped off at the park and i decided to keep riding, haha.

Riding without a chain doesn't make a trick harder? If you're at a park you really don't even need to pedal? It mostly just sucks getting from place to place.

You probly dont realize it, but it does.
Try it.
Youll see.

bmichaelx

It makes a few harder...like 5 taps, for example.

And it's like a mind job not to pedal sometimes....

premiumbmx2005
07-28-06, 04:08 PM
it deffffffinatly makes tricks harder.

sprintcarblue
07-28-06, 04:14 PM
okay, how does no chain make barspins, tailwhips, turndowns, tables, one eighties, threes, five fourties, footjams, rails, ledges or any trick (that obviously doesnt use pedal pressure) harder? give me evidence. somebody prove this to me? dont say "go try it" because I have, and its not any different.

premiumbmx2005
07-28-06, 04:16 PM
they do use pedal pressure...trust me. you want proof? Take off your chain and go ride some park. Point proven.

premiumbmx2005

it is way differant

MadMan2k
07-28-06, 06:02 PM
The cranks move on tailwhips, for one. I'm sure the rest could be done without a chain with the right terrain, but I can't even do most of them with a chain. All I tried was a footjam tailwhip, which I can't land anyway.

sprintcarblue
07-28-06, 10:00 PM
how is it way different? you can tighten your crank arms to spin less in a tailwhipping situation. (if youre that concerned) proooove me wrooooong.

Someone should ride..with no brakes....no pegs....no chain....no sprocket....and a front wheel used for a rear wheel.

That would be laaaaame as hell.

I should try it soemtime...

Ohh yeah, no bar ends either.

sprintcarblue

haha, im sure its been done. it would just be like a really expensive scooter.

Give me a front wheel and I'll do it. I have absolutely no spare 20" parts around.

Didn't Beerman say he knew someone who did that? But they put pegs in their bottom bracket.

A really strange and pretty pointless experience in my opinion... you are never going to have to do that, ever..

Since when did everything you do for fun in your free time have to have a point?

Man I dont know how many times my chain has slipped and ive biffed it.

How many times have you??

Checked to make sure your axel bolts are tight?
Make sure your chain dosn't need a link or two taken out?
Check to make sure your sprocekt isn't bent, or teeth are damaged?
Checked to make sure your back wheel is aligned?
Made sure it's not new chain time?

It's strange that a bunch of people who ride little bikes around for fun can't see the attraction of trying something different, also for fun.
