Road Bike Racing - Another thing that is really bothering me about this landis thing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Is how much media coverage it is getting in the US.

I mean last week I had to listen to a lot of sports columnists talking about how we dont care about cycling as a sport in the US.

When Landis actually won the tour you were lucky to hear a little blurb about it on a sports update on talk radio.

Now its the lead story on every update and everyone seems to want to talk about it.

For a country that doesnt care about this sport they sure like to talk about the dirty side of it.

I agree. One of the most exciting TDFs I have seen with a monumental come from behind story and there was nary a peep. Today, however, full screen banners on MSNBC with headlines that clearly implied Landis was guilty of doping, even though the facts aren't all in yet. Not discounting the seriousness of the issue, but this was over the top on the part of the main stream media. Media love to spin any story that makes America or Americans look bad - seen it in the war in Iraq, seeing it now with Floyd. Get the allegations out first, maybe report facts later.

what pisses me off is an a-hole like lance could get away with it for 7 years strait but a cool guy like floyd couldn't even get his one day in the sun.

Yeah. There is some sick fascination that people have with finding every single flaw in "heroes" (using the term in general) and watching them go down.

"I make my living off the evening news. Just give me something...something I can use. People love it when you lose, they love Dirty Laundry."

"Well, I coulda been an actor but I wound up here. I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear. Come and whisper in my ear, give us Dirty Laundry."

"We got the bubble headed bleach blonde who comes on at five. She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye. It's interesting when people die, give us Dirty Laundry."

"Can we film the operation? Is the head dead yet? You know, the boys in the newsroom got a running bet. Get the widow on the set, we love Dirty Laundry."

etc..

"Crap is king"...

Thanks to Don Henley for one of the greatest songs ever written.

I must thank you for comfirming my suspicions that the quality of posts on this board is slowly diminishing.

Stories are the filler between headlines.
