Nice machine... I have the 6600GT video too. Works well enough and can play all modern games, but not at the highest resolution. Games these days can really push the hardware.

If you're running Win2k Pro, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy and click that. It comes up in a panel. Expand the Local Policies > Security Options and set the first item (Restrict Anonymous) to No access without explicit anonymous permissions.

After that, run the handy Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/mbsa1/default.mspx) utility, and fix any other stuff it dings you for, including weak/blank passwords. Win2000 Pro doesn't have its own firewall, so you don't want to leave that stuff flapping in the wind.

FYI you really don't need the analog-audio cable linking the motherboard to the DVD drive in this day & age. Just go into Device Manager and make sure that the Enable digital audio blah blah checkbox is marked.

I have the same case for my primary system, they're pretty nice cases overall. $33 plus shipping in the no-PSU variant (http://www.provantage.com/antec-slk3000b~7ANTG02Y.htm). Now you just need to find another $150 and plunk a dual-core 3800+ X2 in there :beer:

Well the thing opens like 2 mm on the left side, and 5mm on the right side. I think maybe the disc is tilted upwards and is hitting the top of the drive or something as it goes out. Its my call of duty 2 disc, i cant break it:eek:

Darn. Sounds like it's time to open up the computer's case and possibly remove the plastic front, so you can remove that drive and work on it further.

After getting the drive out, you might try rapping the drive against your palm firmly in various directions and manipulating the drawer, in hopes of jarring the disc into an on-center position. If you remove the front faceplate of the drive (once it's out of the computer), that will let you peek in there and see what's going on.

It shouldnt be too hard, russiankdi was working on my new computer [his old one] and we had to take the cd drive out and some other things. 3 plugs and its out, I think :o

How do I remove the side panel? hahaCan you post a photo of the computer from a sort of rear-side angle? Usually you just remove a couple Phillips screws and slide the metal cover towards the rear, although some chassis open by first removing the plastic front panel and then unscrewing the side cover and sliding it forward.

my friends dell has a latch, some computer have like a button you have to push to remove the panel, some have screws, like mine has two buttons and screws
