"FUJI 12 SPEAD ,DEL RAY RACE,TOURING"
The frame on the bike says "Del Ray". Seller said it's a Fuji
touring bike. Is he lying or telling the truth?

no it is not a touring frame in the traditional sense, I have a 60 cm Delray frame hanging in the garage. it has a short toptube, 73 x 73 angles, no touring braze on's. 41cm chain stays.
PS if this is the one on Ebay, it isn't worth $75
Here is the description by the seller, and he doesn't know what model year it is:
"3 PEICE ALLUMINUM CRANK , DIA COMP FROUNT AND REAR BRAKES ,PAINT IS IN GOOD CONDITION, IT HAS A FEW NICKS, AND SCRATCHES IN IT BUT STILL LOOKS NICE ITS A LUGGED FRAME, NICE SHIFTERS , FUJI FROUNT AND REAR DERAILER , IN FACT I BELIVE THAT EVERY PART ON THIS BIKE IS ORIGINAL EVEN THE CRANK ARMS HAVE FUJI INDENTED WITH BLACK LETTERING ,FROM LOOKING THIS BIKE OVER ONLY TWO THINGS I SEE IS THE SEAT IS NOT ORIGINAL AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED OR RECOVERED AND THE TIRES ARE RECENTLY NEW , FROM GROUND TO TOP OF THE BAR IS 30 INCHES ,IT HAS UKUI ALLUMINUM RIMS, THAT ROOL ON 27 INCH TIRES , does not come with kickstand , .THATS IT HAPPY BIDDING
Is this a good candidate for serious touring?
I guess that means the seller is lying about it being a touring bike.

I think lying is a little strong, supported tourers are very popular. I have bin on some of these, had a problem finding a place to pee, with all the other riders, suport vehicles road side venders. Think Iowa's RAGBRI, but if you go alone there many places even in Iowa where you can pedal 50 miles without passing a single business to by a drink. Eather way there are several opinions of what a tourilng bikie Is. My long hall trucker is the best I'v ever owned, for loded tourilng, but many people use racing biles for organised supported rides.

Yes given the inadequate info. 20+ years ago Del Rey had a good name. Again, if you can not lay your hands on the bike think twice about buying what might just be an over-hyped piece of scrap.

There is an old lugged Fuji DelRey frame next to me with every brazeon I can think of. Super nice frame, triple butted Ishiwata tubing. If it's the same kind as they're selling it ought to be good. Though I wouldn't pay $75 for it.
