Advocacy & Safety - Weird Cycle Lanes of Brighton

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This website is really funny. (http://www.geocities.com/fredpipes/cyclelanes/index.html) And I thought we had some crazy bike lanes in California!
What's the worst bike lane in your neck of the woods?

Hmm.. did you see that on Metafilter? Two others -
Crap Cycle Lanes (http://cycling.gn.apc.org/croydon/cycle_lanes.html)
Cycle Facilities of the UK (http://freespace.virgin.net/andy.preece/cycling/facilities/)
Actually, I did see it on Metafilter. I probably should have cited that source.
Boy, that Crap Cycle Lanes site is aptly named.

Fellow Mefites are relatively infrequent, I quit citing it as a source long ago. Just wondering where you saw it.

our bike lanes here are defined by periodic squares of green paint with the usual white lines & pic. of a bike , most of our delightfull young motorists & their passengers must think the green square means "aim your bottles here" so i just ride in their bit over the w/end & wait till the week day traffic that invarieably drives in the bike lane disperses it :crash:  :crash:

Not to mention "park your car here". As I may have mentioned before, the laws here state as a cyclist you must use a bike lane "when it is practicable to do so". The wording of that is very interesting. I tend to argue that some of those cycle lanes (there are some like them at Tweed Heads) are not practicable to use, anymore than the ones covered in broken glass, parked cars etc etc.

Those lanes are so bad they're funny. What's scary is that someone got paid for designing them.
The grates they complain about don't look too bad, though. At least the bars are perpendicular to the direction of traffic. Missouri has real "bicycle traps" with bars running parallel to the direction of traffic. They're supposed to be replacing them, but I still see them being installed in some places. That's progress.
Pink cycle lanes? LMAO
And what language is that? ;) "traffic wardens"?
After seeing some of the cycle lanes on those websites I may cut back on making fun of some of the cycle lanes around here.
I love the ones where they throw you into a sharp little turn and wham! right into a post. Sheesh!
Makes the glass and yardwaste in Sacto's bikelanes look like Cycling Eden.

hi.. i should consider myself lucky to have bike lanes right out my front door, as i live in a city fo 3 million plus.. and i am right downtown.. these lanes lead to a wonderful trail along the lakeshore and beaches... however there is usually a line up of cars sitting inside them..mostly on my side to visit the Donut shop..
Toronto bicycling network has police checking these cars.. but there are just too many cars and not enough officers to go around doing this kind of job.
so to utilize them we have to keep our eyes open for car doors, rapid stops, turns into the lane with no signals and of course.. pedestrians walking in the bike lanes..lol
in some ways its' helped me.. i can now bunny hop(small one) a curb with my roadie.. and my unclipping is supafast now
p.s. Brighton is on my list for visitin cousins in the future..lol guess i should avoid the bike lanes.
