What's a fast time for a 10 (6 mile) Time Trial? Is 20 minutes a fast time? Any racers out there care to comment on what time makes a competitive 10k TT?

I don't think 20 minutes is fast. 10k is only 6.2 miles, and my fastest 8 mile TT is 21:56...And I don't consider myself fast. There's guys out there doing 8 miles in under 21 mintues. One of the guys did 10 miles in 20 minutes. Also, wasn't the Tour prologue about 6 miles? and Lance did it in 9 mintues and some odd seconds.

I think the 15-19 minute range would be getting into competitive range. As mere mortals, I don't think a sub 12 minute time is all that realistic.

but lance had a really cool TT bike :)

as for times, that's a good start, but if you want to be competitive (at least out here) you will need to have an average speed of around 22-25 mph, so you need about a 16-14 min time. However, times will be different with age... i.e. junior, master or cat 5 etc...

and going 40 mph doesn't hurt either :)

I have not done 10K(6.2 miles) TT but have done 8 miles in 20:28
and that was around a 23 mph average I think. I have never road raced so not sure how it compares. I was mountain bike racing at the time and used my road bike for training. I think it could have been a better time but there was a stop sign in the route that is in a place where you can slow but not quite have to stop unless traffic is coming.

I did 10km at the beginning of last season in 18:0x and I really don't consider myself fast. Thats about a 20mph average.

The 2002 TdF TT prologue was 7.3km but 9 min is still wicked fast!

What's that come out to in MPH? 30mph or around that?
