So we have consensus on a drum brake for our Andes trip. Though I think we will skip the pass from Mendoza to Santiango, by all reports it is treacherous due to traffic and tunnels. And as per a separate thread I think we will go with a trailer rather than panniers. Thanks.
Next question, do I give control of the drum brake to my wife the stoker, or should I keep it?. I'd like some stokers to answer that, not just captains. Machistas please abstain.

Try searching the forum for drag brake. Topic has been discussed a few times.
Some have the stoker control the drag brake, others have the captain. Most seem to have the captain control the brake.
Give the stoker something to do besides being the power behind the throne!
