Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am down to 10 mile trips, like 20 miles a week.
I hurt my back and its all I can do till better.
Bad thing is riding makes it feel better, riding in the POS F550 Truck is the worst.
So I will not be saying much for a while.

When I was about 25, I squatted to reach an item at a department store bottom shelf. I could not straighten back out. I had to have a store employee call my family to pick me up and take me home. I took several days to heal from pain and immobility. Ever since then, my back gets messed up once in a while. Ibuprofen and rest usually clears it up in a couple of days.
But one morning, I hurt my back getting ready to ride my bike to work. All I was doing was brushing my teeth, and I coughed while leaning over, and my back went out again. Of course, I rode to work anyway...
While on the bike, I felt fine. When I tried to walk or sit, I was in great pain.
From now on, I stay home. :)

I did the same type of thing to my back 20+ years ago. Odd thing to me are the things that cause it to go out since then. I lift a lot of heavy things both at work and at home but that never does it. It's always something simple like sitting on the couch and reaching for a drink on the table or getting down on my knees to get the shoe that somehow ended up inder the bed. I guess what I'm getting at is how impossible it is to prevent throwing my back out when I have no idea what little thing is going to cause it next.

I'm in the same club. I broke a vertebrae about two years ago and now I have "pain days" from time to time. Never can tell what will set it off. Last time I opened the door to my office and nearly fell down from the pain.

mine is in my feet and I am not old I am still in my late teens! last 2 weeks my feet have been horrible I somedays I cant walk so those are the days I will skoot my self across the apartment on my back or roll across the office pushing off of walls oddly enough I am still good to ride my bike?
I recently slipped a disk in my back (I'm only 32, that's not supposed to happen yet!). Hurt like the dickens, wasn't able to get out of bed, sit up, etc. I finally got a bunch of excersises from my doc (and my wife, who happens to be a doc :D), that assisted quite a bit.
Just to be sure, I went and got a stem extender for my bike. It only raised the handle bars a inch and a half, but the difference on my back is amazing.
