Foo - Okay someone fill me in.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Whats up with the Aussie threads? There HUGH threads and I don't care to read a book at 6:43am in the morning.

I was gone most of the weekend.

Thanks
Snowy.

It's pretty much finished with... basically Koffee got her undies in a twist about us using the word 'seppo' in a Floyd Landis thread and decided to take the Aussie thread away... possibly got her arse kicked by Joe and so moved it to Foo. She's been on a deleting spree ever since so most of the regular Aussies have diappeared to another cycling forum with nicer carpet.

Okay where was it before??It's been in 'Road Cycling' for a few years.... very popular fer a laugh.

cause once we get going with it, it could be fun to watch what we can do with it You would've had a job on yer hands.... part 5 was only two weeks old (post #70). Do what you like with it... Koffee does!

This thread will probably get nuked too now... sorry.

history lesson:

1)Aussies start a series of totally offtopic threads in road cycling
2)somehow it gets stickied
3)drama breaks loose, and some slurs were used (seppo, and maybe some others)
4) mods move the thread to figure out what's going on
5)thread frequenters discover a single grain of sand in their nethers
6)sandy posters start making threads about it, with a few even making posts that I would consider racist, or outright offensive. A few posters I respected have lost all respect.
7)mods dealt with the issues in the thread, and placed it in foo
8)thread frequenters found a second grain of sand in their nethers
9)Thinking this sand is from bikeforums, they threaten to go to the spamtrap known as cyclingforums
10)Most of the people really don't care, since many of them never posted outside of that thread anyways.

Catadamus predicts that they will be back.

history lesson:
Slightly corrected history lesson...

1)Aussies start a series of totally offtopic threads in road cycling Yep

2)somehow it gets stickiedYep. By BF mods.

3)drama breaks loose, and some slurs were used (seppo, and maybe some others)Yep, but drama broke loose elsewhere... none of it occurred in The Aussie Thread... which is the main point.

4) mods move the thread to figure out what's going onNope. One mod, singular, didn't move it, she said she'd deleted it.
Other mods have since pointed out that there was no discussion as is normally the case, she just took it upon herself to do what she liked. Other mods have also suggested she either lose mod status, or be banned. (not Aussie mods BTW, USofA ones)

5)thread frequenters discover a single grain of sand in their nethersthat's why I don't go to the beach... nothing worse!

6)sandy posters start making threads about it, with a few even making posts that I would consider racist, or outright offensive. A few posters I respected have lost all respect. The muck slinging went both ways but KB made sure she selectively deleted her posts to tip things her way. Yep, a few posters were getting a bit excited, but it was her job to deal with them individually. Instead, she deletes a completely unrelated thread to get back at them. Classy.

7)mods dealt with the issues in the thread, and placed it in fooI suspect KB got her arse kicked and had to do something... a bit of an about-face after threatening that if the thread was resurrected, she'd just delete it again.

8)thread frequenters found a second grain of sand in their netherssee 5)

9)Thinking this sand is from bikeforums, they threaten to go to the spamtrap known as cyclingforumsA lot of us have been members there for longer than here... it doesn't get as much passing traffic so generally isn't as much fun.

10)Most of the people really don't care, since many of them never posted outside of that thread anyways.Whether you care about us or not is not the point, you should care that there are people in positions of power here that obviously don't know how to handle it. Like I said, other mods are suggesting she be banned for her behaviour.

We have no gripe against the members here, just one mod. Most people that visited TAT reckoned they got a good laugh out of it, which is what it was about... we occasionally talked bike stuff though. Sad that it had to go this way... I've met some top yanks here. :)

Catadamus predicts that they will be backSome may, but I think most won't. Some have asked Joe to delete their memberships.

hmmm, you're never septic tanks, just yanks or seppos. It just rhymes.

WHAT IS SEPPO??
Seppo is just rhyming slang. seppo=septic tank=yank
Originally from Yankee (commonly used around the globe) shortened to yank (cos we're lazy) rhymes with septic tank (cockney rhyming slang) and we couldn't be bothered saying the whole thing (see lazy) so we shorten it to seppo.
Be thankful yer not from NZ ;)

Sorry to hear about all the troubles, seems like I missed all the excitement. Can't say I could have helped much though. I've said as much as I can on this topic else where, but if any of those Aussies who have escaped to the land of CyclingForums stop by here - hope you all decide to swing by BF in the future once tempers cool down. Ya'll are a good bunch for the most part, and hate to see the BF community split over this.

In your little history lesson you make it seem like the aussie thread has only been around for a week.

you kinda skipped the whole years of success and the fact that its on something like its 4th thread of over 1000 replys.

I have been visiting this site daily for 3 years. I've never opened an Aussie thread. Nor a "Hugh" thread for that matter.

The mod in question, who seems to have gotten herself banned, was being high-handed with her dealing with the whole 'seppo' thing.
In case you Aussies think that this was all your doing, it wasn't. You guys were, however, the tipping point, so Good Job! The mod, KB, has a history of winning arguments by deleting threads: I wrote to Joe about one of her displays of pique over in the Tour day Frantz forum after she deleted a thread after a poster called her on some stuff.
As well, she is notorious over in the SSFG forum for the same sort of stuff. Plus, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence of her deleting/editing her own retorts in order to lessen her personal culpability when the mods get together to clean up the aftermath.
She, herself, is a unique personality. That a person with her personality traits is imposing her idea of Right and Wrong on a forum is unfortunately all too common. There seems to be at least one such person on just about every board out there, at least in the areas of cycling, computer tech, and muzzleloading rifles, which is where I spend the majority of my misspent time when online.

The main question after all this: who will take her place? He/She is out there, simply a matter of time before the Mommy Impulse overwhelms an otherwise normal individual.

Typically the title "Banned" appears under their user name in posts.

In our former Mod's case... it appears that something different has transpired.

KB did not get "Banned."

Joe explained in a thread that is no longer available that:

a) He was taking away KB's Admin/Mod authority (i.e., no more blue star)

b) As a result, KB voluntarily left the BF Community altogether. (i.e., the KB user id was inactivated and is no longer in use).

Beyond that, details were not given, as were between Joe and KB.
