Foo - New Mod option

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well it seems that there may be an empty seat in the moderator box. I was thinking that a great person to be considered should be one of our own beloved Foosters, Stacey.
She is even handed, well educated, highly respected, compassionate, fair and has been with BikeForums for some time now. I think it would be a great asset to have someone like her to be able to be a part of the moderator family. What do you guys think?

Why would Stacey want that hassle?
Poor mods. It's a hard job mucking out the stables. Little glory in it and a lot of work.
They do a pretty good job keeping BF running smoothly.

I think she might be interested. I'm sure she can handle it too. :)
Problem with being a Mod is that you have to be *very* careful about expressing personal opinion because you now represent more than just yourself in every single post. - a little bit of wisdom from another Mod here on BF's shared with me some time ago.
- something to think about for anyone thinking of being a Mod here or on any board.

Wow....take some time off to enjoy life and the whole BF takes a shift! Just the evolution of internet sites I guess. For what it's worth, I think if someone wants to be a mod they should approach Joe themselves. It's not a decision to be made lightly. However, I think Stacey would be an excellent mod should she want to pursue it!
...She is even handed, well educated, highly respected, compassionate, fair ...
since when were these desirable qualities in a fist? :p
but hey, i got respect for anybody who thinks they can handle the hassle. if she wants the job, who am i to be agin her?

How about no new moderators? If there is a problem, existing moderators can be contacted. Heavy handed moderation is unnessasary.

This thread reminds me of that scene in The Fellowship Of The Ring (the film, not the book), when Frodo asks Gandalf to take the Ring of Power from him.
"Don't..tempt me, Frodo!! I would only wish to use the ring for good, but through me it would be a power to great and terrible to imagine!"
-Gandalf the Grey
^^ That's what it would be like to have Stacy as a mod. Too great and terrible to imagine. Love ya, Stacy! *smooches*:D

Yep...very much Yep..I can't rip into people like I used to, I always have to wear the mod cap. Its a tough gig in that regards.

The work load is quite a bit and koffee did a tonne of work. And to be honest, I agree about heavy moderation, but its been proven umpteen times in the past certain types of members can't moderate themselves and follow the rules. Koff's seat as a mod needs to be replaced.
We are amidst discussion right now about who and what direction we will take with the new mod.

I think Merton should be a mod. If not him, then slvoid for sure. Cuz then we could get away w/ murder, literally.
Why Siu, I'm both honored and flattered. I'll not decline your nomination and will serve fairly if chosen. I feel that a balance of camaradre (sp) and responsibility can be maintained in spite of my irreverant and sometimes ribald sense of humor, not to mention my horrific spelling. :)
Let's see what the good ol' boys have to say after they have a chance to palaver (http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2004/04/05.html)(def 3)
Thanks you sis and everyone else.

I do like Stacey, but should it be someone who can moderate the Women's BF, like Koffee used to?

Stacey's a woman so she could mod the women's BF. That whole part of BF is like a wondrous mystery...
go Stacey, go Stacey, go Stacey!!!!!

Thanks for palaver (def 2). I love it when my vocabulary gets a boost.:)
A mod has to be able to objectively assess the situation without taking sides. Don't feel like stacey could do that.
Cuda is awesome. I'd like him as a mod. Never seen him say a single rude comment on these boards.

Aside from the Woman's BF thingie (which I don't understand at all: cycling has nothing to do with one's gender. If gender is so important, where's the Men's Forum?? eh? No answer.....), how about you of the Mod Squad concentrate on competence and ability first?

Sorry, slovid. Your brain will not accept such data at this time. Try again later.:)

If you want to be a mod you may have to get a red star first. You, presumably, have to show that you're willing to put something in as well as take something out.

wielding the +6 hammer of tool-bannage may be fun, but there is an incredible amount of responsibility to go with it.
Pretty much every official action is a balancing act. How many folks will get pissed off if I do this, vs how many if I don't? Pretty much it's more political than it is black and white enforcement. That's where people screw it up, they get all dalek on people, and then realize even the rest of the mods are getting angry at them over it.
You have to readd through tons of threads, even ones that are dull enough to make you want to rip your nether hairs out, just to make sure nobody is being a tool.
I've modded on another forum before, as well as a few chatrooms...it's pretty agitating at times. Chatroom moderation was far far faster, but people understood why you were doing it...when someone is spamming 30 lines a minute about their penis, tell them to take it to #mypenis and give them a 20 minute whipping with the banstick.
I was kinda hopin' you would give the Gandalf speech.:D

Sorry friend, I'm not a LOTR fan. I wouldn't know Gandalf from Frodo, much less be able to reach back and grab a quote. :)
I found palaver in Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Loved the word (def 3) since the first time I saw it. It seemed much deeper communication than just talking or having a discussion.

You would be a great mod, sis! I sure wouldn't want the job (I *do* appreciate how much work it is and that mods really do a lot of WORK - I have "modded" before on other forums)....but if you want it, I think you'd make a good one.
What Koffee is GONE?? Wow, I really missed that. Is that why the Aussie threads are gone?? Gosh people need to ride their bikes more and not get caught up in the petty things here. :)
Damn... when I said take you out, I meant like, rubbed out.
