No, not that tool you filthy minded people.

IMO Axl Rose is the biggest tool to grace popular music since the introduction of Rock n Roll music back in the 50's.

BTW, I'm encompassing Rap here as well. Michael Jackson as well.

Can anyone find a muso (alleged or otherwise) who can top Axl 'I'm the biggest tool' Rose for sheer ego, stupidity, pompousness and cretinous behaviour? Be sure to expand on why you think your nomination is such a big tool.

No way Stacey. Disagree. DLR is unquestionably a tool, no doubt, with a very healthy ego. The difference is that DLR can laugh at himself. Axl can't. He's humourless about himself and a complete and total ****wit. So there.:p

I'm going to expand on my Axl Rose theme and throw up a couple of other tossers for the hall of shame once a few of you lot have had a crack at it.:D Hopefully someone can top Axl.

Axl is not just a tool, he's a whole tool shed. He is a marginally talented screeching poser who thinks he has never had a bad idea. Whatever claim to non-tool status he ever had went out the window when he recorded a song by Charles Manson.

Jerry Lee Lewis was the original rock and roll tool. Axl has a quarter of Jerry Lee's talent and 10 times his boorishness.

Michael Jackson is not a tool. He's pathetic and weird and creepy, but he's not a tool.

I'm with you, classic. Axl Rose is rock and roll's all time champion number 1 tool.

Barry Manilow is a Craftsman catalog.

While I can't stand his music, everything I have seen in interviews, etc., about Manilow is that he is quite self-effacing and he realizes just how good he's got it.

If you're going away from rock in that direction, the biggest tool, probably bigger than Axl, even, is BARBRA STREISAND.

What a *#*$

My girlfriend is obsessed with Manilow, and he's about the easiest-going guy out there. Definitely un-tool like. But going away from rock, you can't leave out toolbag Sinatra.

And I'll add another vote for Fred Durst.

To be a rock tool you have to think of yourself as something you are
not....
Courtney might have a crtain tooleage factor as a human, but as a rock
star she is perfect !!! Look at all greatest rock stars of the kozmic
universe....Sid, Johnny Thunders, Keef Richards, Dead Boys etc and they
stick strictly to being rock stars...drugging, puking, making fools of themselves
when they speak, etc...just doing their job. Rock tools really beleive
they are doing something waaaay far above world peace or finding a cure for
AIDs. Speaking profoundly and finding it painful to condecend to us lowly
mortals for even 30 seconds is what makes a rock tool. Yngie Malmsteen for
instance....
BTW, I think Nirvana is the alpha point for the sad state of affairs we suffer
culturally n music today...The Nirvanas, almost all of the Seatle sound(???)
is why we suffer Nicklebacks, puddle of mudds, System of a downs etc today..
WAKE UP PEOPLE !!!! Throw on some Velvet Underground. Jesus and Mary
Chain, listen. learn !!

And you're going to blame the Husker Dus, Pixies, and Sonic Youths of the world for inspiring Nirvana to happen? Or Black Sabbath for allowing Soundgarden to happen? Or classic rock in general for Pearl Jam?

C'mon. The 'Seattle Sound' was fairly diverse in its influences. It just happens that they chose to use their influences wisely, while the mid-90's grunge knock-offs (7 Mary 3, Silverchair, Collective Soul, Bush [blech!!!]) chose to be as unoriginal in using their respective predecessors?

BTW, I agree that kids would do well to explore the soundscapes of the Velvets. That stuff is tough to access, but ultimately more rewarding in the long run. That said, as cool as he was most of the time, Lou Reed was at times a massive tool. I blame Andy Wharol for that. ;)
