My girl and I are going to San Francisco next week. Does anyone know where we can rent a bike just to beat around town with? Fixed would be great but not important. We will be staying on Powell St. in/near Union Square maybe you can also tell me of a nice place to ride and where NOT to ride. Thanks

you can walk or take the bart from powell street to embarcadero. under the bridge there is a cheap bike rental place called the bike hut http://www.thebikehut.com/

do not rent from blazing saddles or bike and roll. they are for tourists.

here is a coupon if you go that route.

Bike Hut all the way. Plus their hut is filled with used parts they'll sell you on the cheap!! I picked up a couple of derailleurs when I went.

If you want something original. BoxDog bike on 14th Street and Valencia has a small yellow old school Japanese Tandem bike for rent about $30 per day.
