Hi All. I live in west St Louis county. Originally from California, We are in the middle of our "second slow lap" of the US having lived in California, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, and Missouri.
I am a member of the over 50 club, but a 10 year old boy tends to keep you moving.
I have recently returned to cycling as a way to spend time with the family, keep fit, and if the weather ever cooperates around here, commute to work.
I grew up in Davis, CA. People that know of Davis know how much bikes are a part of life there. I would really like to see that same sort of mindset here in St Louis. Less traffic woes, less impact on the environment, healthier people, healthier neighborhoods....all good stuff.
I recently rode the Tour de Cure for the Diabetes Association. 50 miles, and I walked away with nothing worse than minor cramps and some sunburn. It was a blast, and I plan to ride more events like this.
I started off with a toy store bike, but quickly figured out that a real bike was in order for the hills around here. I picked up an older Trek SingleTrack (lugged frame) which is my daily ride. I put on a set of road tires, and it works pretty well for me.
I am glad I found this forum. I am really interested in the commuting and over 50 forums.
