Foo - Have You Ever Actually Been Upset By Posting On The Internet?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This thread offends me.

That's it! I'm leaving the internets!

Ok I'll stop now. :p

Are you asking if I have ever had a really negative reaction to some stupid comment somebody wrote?
No. On higher quality forums like this one, people in general don't make dumb comments that might set folks off. On lower quality forums, people do it all the time. In my opinion, most of the people in those kinds of forums (typically gaming forums in my experience) are full of crap anyways. Not worth aggravation

In a local forum there was a thread about cyclists. Half of the posters expressed their burning desire to run us over with their cars. That had an adverse effect on me and my riding for a while...

Yah! I used to spend waaaay too much time fighting with trolls on the Yahoo/Ann Coulter message boards. That was very unhealthful. One of the trolls there does haunt bike forums, but fortunately still saves his worst for "Coultervakia". If anyone seriously cares about the world, politics and persuading others, it's way too easy to get caught up in things.

I once did get warned by a mod that "You know what you did, and if you don't stop, you can take a week or two to cool off". That did kind of bug me, since all I typed was "six".

The internets is infamous for miscommunication. It is very hard to "read" people and thier intent online. I'm thinking that most of the people who get upset over something someone wrote probably just misread what the other was trying to say.

No. Not really. Well, there were a couple of misunderstandings that were straightened out but I'm the type that backs off if I feel something weird is going to start. I like everyone here on BF, though :)

Dinner. It's served in five minutes. If you're not here by the time it's all gone, then you'll go hungry tonight. No desserts for those who miss chow time.

LOL! I actually enjoy chopping onions for that reason, strange enough. I feel it is cleansing somehow.

Some shathead used a picture of my flatbar as an example of how "ugly" a modern stem can be.:(

I had a friend who would log into the live internet board games like on yahoo. For instance, he would play chess or checkers with a single apponent. He really had no interest in playing the game, but rather simply wanted to antagonize people through the chat function. He would keep baiting them until they resigned.

Before when MSN chat was free, I would go into the verbal abuse rooms. Those were a blast! :D

Oh, and did I tell you I am and have always been completely innocent of any wrongdoing. :D

Yes, there used to be a very obnoxious poster in P&R that always managed to push my buttons. Thank the gods he was a Bush stooge and departed after the elections. :)

If anyone here has seen "Clerks II" then you'll have to think of Randal using the internet to antagonize a certain blogger by rebutting all the whining the blogger is doing about his state of living. Very funny scene!

Yes, most definitely.

I *used to* hang out at a religious debate forum, and I would let them all get to me. I got so worked up, I constantly had to give myself "cool down" time before posting.

Now I know better and try to avoid places that I know will be confrontational because when "I confront".

While on a book group, members were going crazy over this one character in a series and I really wasn't a huge fan of that character. They tended to all gang up and jump on people and I'd say something from time to time and people would post calling me this or that and it didn't really bother me. When I was nine months pregnant someone posted saying that they hoped my child died at birth to spare having me for a mother. Trust me, that's all I thought about while going through labor and childbirth (when my daughter did nearly die).

Awww, I'm sorry you had to go through that, Lex. That was pure evil. People can really be mean. :( (the bastards!!!!)

A Bush stooge pushed your buttons? Don't get upset, it's quite normal for men to depart after elections, or not call you the next day, though we would prefer it if you kept your sordid little sex relationship secrets to yourself.

I lost a friend of 15 years because of something we said to each other through iChat. In retrospect, I should have called him as soon as the words got out of hand. I don't miss him.

I'm sure he suffered from electile disfunction like the rest of the country apparently did. So he was probably embarrased to come back.

Hey Lex, everytime your daughter smiles she's telling non-verbally that mommy came through for her on labor day. ;)

I think people are more friendly when they can put a face to the words. I'd like to see the people in P&R2 show all of their faces. Makes you wonder if they will post the same way if they aren't anonymous.

There's a reason I hang out at BF and Foo 80% of the time I'm online. Although I don't always agree with everything everyone says, but for the most part...we are all pretty respectful of each other here on Foo.:) You just need to hang around in a "bad" internet site/forum to appreciate how good we have it here at BF. Having a common interest (cycling) that brings us all together doesn't hurt either.;)

You mean Yahoo! message boards? Maybe 1 in 50 posts there actually contain something worth reading that expands on the main article w/ additional links, etc.

I used to frequent a forum that was all political. It was all about politics and I used to get really agitated. It took me awhile to realize how stupid it was to be arguing with these morons on the internet. I finally wised up and never returned.

Here at BF, I take everything with a grain of salt. Occasionally I try and upset someone, but i try and do it in a very cavalier fashion.
