For some of us it takes alot of guts. When we don't have guts it takes a few drinks. But regardless, tell me have you ever sang publicly in a karaoke? What song did you sing?

Some of you more talented BF members may actually be a singer in a band. Please speak out!

For me, I sung karaoke last week in front of establisment full of people. Yes it was scary. I sung "Lonesome Town" by Ricky Nelson. I love the Golden Oldies.

 Stop holding back and spit out that crazy story.

Many times. But I've also performed with live bands, and sang in a couple of benefit concerts...so it doesn't bother me. But I have respect for anyone who gets up there and tries.

Once, at the spouses' Company Party. Two sheets to the wind to do it. Prefer campfires and real singing,

Okay, Okay, this purpose of this thread to to somehow bolster my ego by mentioning my lackluster attempt at a drunk sputtering of a song. So far my responses have been from a leadsinger in a band (cycle17) and the our secret talented foo poster (Siu Blue Wind). (Great song listing, by the way, shows a good voice).

Hopelessly Devoted To You - ONJ  The Grease soundtrack one of my favorites.

Anyone out there who fell on their face? My ego needs bolstering. :D

Yeah I've done it a couple times. Takes a few drinks, the right mood, and the right posse.

What have I sung?

Elvis, lots of Elvis
Folsom Prison Blues, Johnny Cash
King of the Road, Roger Miller
and various others, including Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive (in complete falsetto, was hilarious)

(I've been told I could lead a Counting Crows cover band, to give you an idea of my voice)

I've done kareoke and have mostly been okay....except once....when I got drunk and forgot that I can't sing Heart. Ohmygosh it was fun but ohmygosh it was bad.

Here's my thread killer:

I'm in a karaoke video. :)
When a friend of mine got out of film school, he made money by making those videos some karaoke places play while people sing. He would get $1000 per song to produce the videos. So if he could beg, borrow and steal anything, he would get to keep what was left out of the money.

So if you want to see Moocher's Dad, circa 1990; watch the karaoke video to Dean Martin's Memories are Made of This.

Here are the lyrics so you can practice (http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Dean-Martin/Memories-Are-Made-Of-This.html)

I called this a thread killer because I've noticed on BF that whenever anyone brags about knowing someone famous, being in some sort of movie or on TV, or generally brags like I am right now, then the thread ends.

Prove me wrong and post below me so I won't cry.

I'd like to see it too. I have a friend who goes to the kareoke bar every weekend and has her husband tapes when she sings so she can beat herself up over it later.

I always refuse. A man can only stand a certain amount of public humiliation, and this would go way over my threshhold. :o

Wow...I used to actually participate in tavern Karaoke contests when I was in college...never came in first though...too many people always gave more votes for the really hot babe with a so-so voice. Got a few free drinks and meals out of it though.

"If Tomorrow Never Comes" (Garth Brooks)
"Rock this Town" (Stray Cats)
"The Way You Look Tonite" (Sinatra)
"Talks to Angels" (Black Crowes)
"That Summer" (Garth Brooks)
"You're the Inspiration" (Chicago)
"Girl Can't Help It" (Journey)
"Melt With You" (Modern English)
"You Wreck Me (Tom Petty)
"Ordinary World" (Duran Duran)

...were some of my "specialties".

Don't really go to bars, much less karoake bars much.

I sang (while piss drunk) a song at my brother Halloween party a few years ago. I can't even remember what song it was....something kind or hard rock I think. Maybe AC/DC or something like that.

I've always said that if I did ever get into a karaoke situation, I'd sing "Devil Went Down To Georgia" by Charlie Daniels Band.

My specialty is "My Way", but for those of you familiar with Scott Walker, I wait for the day when I will be able to unleash one of his ballads at a more enlightened karaoke establishment. I also like singing "The East is Red" for that revolutionary feel.

Pretty much any Chinese love ballad is good. I've been working on Andy Lau's "Xie xie ni de ai" (Thank you for your love). Terrible song, but great for karaoke.

There's one Korean-run place near my school that supplies tambourines so you can rock out while someone else is singing. And they have songs like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Exit Music (for a film)", which make for welcome departures from the standard karaoke fare.

Edit: public karaoke experiences include singing "Hey Paula" with my sister in front of a substantial crowd, and "I'm every woman" with my cousin, during which I realised I didn't know the song at all

Where's That Video???

If you're referring to mine, I have it on video tape. It's sooooooo cheesy. and I had more hair and less fat.
The girl in it is pretty cute.

I've been meaning to have it converted for a while so maybe I just will and post it.

I love singing!

My name "Shadiyah" is my belly dance name, and it means "singer" in Arabic.

However, I haven't done much karaoke. I think only once actually. It was my first time ever in a bar. I was underage (20). I got plastered off of crappy Utah beer and I finally got the guts to get up there and sing. It was "Rainy Day Woman" by Bob Dylan. I rocked the house. :p I think I did The Capenters "Superstar" as an encore. The rest of the night was a blur. Haven't done it since. ;)
