Recreational & Family - Well I took the plunge

Finally bought a bike (actually bikes) yesterday. After all the research I got myself a 2001 Specialized Sirrus Comp for $450.

I think it suits my needs at the moment for some urban bike riding around town, bike path riding with my wife and maybe some Palos Verdes hill/road bike-type stuff as well.

I decided to wait on a full blown road bike to see how deep I get into riding. $450 is a good starting point for what seems to be a pretty solid bike with I think good components. If I get deeper I'll move to a road bike like most of you seem to have here. I know myself. That is when the budget will expand. LOL

The funniest thing is the guy at the LBS we went to also sold my wife a bike as well. She got a 2001 or 2002 Giant Cypress DX comfory bike for $175. Should be fun.

Now if I can just figure out the pedals and what shoes to get on my new ride. :confused:

the bike that you have bought should have been equip with the pedals, and for shoes to wear you can use any ordinary running shoes on it, but if you are going to more seriuos bike riding then a clipless pedal and the shoe should go with it, welcome to BFC, and happy bike riding with your wife.

The Sirrus has platform clipless pedals on it. So I need to get shoes. I can ride the bike without clippless shoes but it's not really comfortable.

I guess I also have to go back to the LBS and get the cleats cuz I didn't get any and I didn't know the pedals are suppose to come with them.

Congrats on your new ride! Enjoy! You won't believe how pedaling around the neighborhood, town, and countryside will improve your attitude and stamina. It's like being a little kid again. Have a great time.

BTW I bought a Sirrus, too. It's a great bike for someone new to the sport.

Yeah sound like it. I live in Redondo. I'll keep an eye out. It'll be fun riding with my wife although I'm a little worried here pace will take some time to develop and hold me back a bit to start.

Ah well give and take and patience. It's all good. :D

One thing to try is to go out earlier in the day and do a nice hard training ride. When you get back, you can relax and do a nice easy pace for recovery. My wife always suggests that I go out first before doing a ride with her. Alternatively, you can treat the ride as a warm-up and do a harder ride afterward.

Welcome - but it won't be long before your wife wants a bike exactly like yours.

Some of us follow the rule - make sure your wife's bike is always better than your own - then you always have an excuse to upgrade!!
