Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - The perfect randonee bike - what would yours be?

What would you consider to be the perfect randonee bike? Meaning, what frame material, wheels, components, tire size, frame options (braze-ons, etc.), etc.?

I'm thinking that if I'm going to do a 1200km brevet, my flyweight aluminum race rig may not be the best option, as that aluminum frame could start to feel a bit harsh after a while (doesn't bother me on centuries, but 750+ miles is another story...). Carbon/titanium/steel? I'd like to get something that would also be suitable for road races, so probably wouldn't go for a Rivendell or similar, unless I could be convinced that it'd be FAR superior. Would a standard carbon/titanium/steel race bike be sufficient? What do you look for?

It would be a recumbent with two wheels up front and one in back.
Each wheel would be the same size.

Bachetta Strada. Carbon seat with seatbag. 34 hours in the saddle on the 600k and no pain in the aft end.

Price is no object right? I'd get either a custom made Mariposa (by Mike Barry in Toronto), or a Bruce Gordon. Definitely steel, with all the appropriate attachment points thoughtfully positioned. If it's one of Bruce's bikes, I'd get the custom racks, fenders and lighting systems too.

Very close. I'd prefer a horizontal top tube, unless there's a good reason for it to be sloped (I wouldn't dare tell an expert what's best, but that's my aesthetic). I'd also give serious consideration to having it made with custom lugs with a dragon theme. :)

The top tube is horizontal - it must just be the way the photo was taken.

The crank seems small? It is a 170mm crank with a 53 tooth chainring.
