My sister just got back from the island and brought me a Hawaiian shirt back as a gift. I'm over 30, ride a bike, what the hell, I have no excuse not to wear it. Well today was as hot as any other we've had lately, I sweat the usual bucket and a half, and the dye in the shirt ran. Ran like it was made of food coloring. I look like a melted cherry and vanilla popsicle. The worst part is I used the sleeve to wipe sweat off my forehead.
Pardon me, I have to get a paper bag for my sister, seems she is hyperventilating from laughing at me.

Cheap shirt! I've got a whole closet full of Hawaiian shirts, I wear them all the time to ride, I've never had this problem.

Try Paradise on a Hanger if you want a real Hawaiian shirt that won't run:

Must be a cheapo one, like the ones they have at Steve and Barries.

Yeah, must be one of the cheap ones. I've got a bunch of them, and I've never had that problem. My favorites are Kalakaua, made in Honolulu. Here's their site:

Get the Tommy Bahama silk shirts. Soft and cool on hot days. Very colorfast and won't fade like cotton shirts. :)

Silk shirts stick to skin in the summer like postage stamps soaked in sugar!

Some manufacturers 'reverse print' Hawaiian shirts to mimic fading. Running and fading are two entirely different things.

Big, loud aloha shirts are great for wearing on the bike. I've found that the 100% polyester dry just about as fast as my jerseys. The cotton shirts I reserve for casual wear off the bike.

How often do you stick postage stamps soaked in sugar to your skin?

:D

I vastly prefer cotton, linen and rayon to polyester.

No, I'm talking about the cotton shirts that start out bright and colorful and after a couple months of wear & washing, they're faded enough to look stone-washed.

Mamo Howell also makes nice silk Hawaiians too. Yeah, stay away from polyester...

Sorry no pics, I took a shower before anyone could get a camera out.
Yeah, sister says it was a cheep shirt, $12 sold by a vendor walking up the beach.
Anyone remember trick soap (http://www.shinegallery.com/tricksoap1950s.html)?

Yiy. The decent shirts cost at least $24.99. What the heck, wash it in bleach a couple times and you'll have another white shirt.
