I think you need to be alittle more descriptive.

What kind of budget, what kind of riding habits?

Like Bfong said - What kind of riding do you plan on doing? How much travel does your current fork have? Are you looking for features like a lockout or can it be more basic? What price range are you looking at? All of this information is needed to make a good recommendation for a new fork for your bike. You will have much more luck by asking this question in the mountain bike section of the forums (Or asking a moderator to move this one) - More people check it more often, and you will find that most people with the experience to recommend a fork for you will be there to answer questions more often.

I've ridden Rock Shox and Manitou and Marzocchi. Marzocchi is by far my favorite. No matter what price range you're looking for i'd go with marzocchi. good quality, it'll hold up. if weight is a big issue then don't go with marzocchi, but i wouldn't sacrifice a little bit of weight for the quality of the marzocchi's.

Is this for that Huffy you bought? Not like you'll listen to anyone.

Given your description of your riding style and what you will need the shock for, I suggest you get the Marzocchi Monster T. It should be a decent upgrade for you. Also conider the Shiver DC. Great fork.........very plush.........

Seriously though.................how are we suposed to tell you what kind of shock, fork, or whatever to get if we don't know how your going to use it???

Strange...I feel like I answered this...ummm Save your cash up for a cheap marz or rockshox. Marz exr is ten times the fork and only 200$...2.5 months of savings and you will have it...

How old are you? Because what you really need to do is get a part time job. No offense or anything, but if you are old enough to then you will be able to buy much better components for your bike. Even working a couple days a week will quadrupal your monthly earnings.

otherwise, save up your money and dont waste it on low end parts. The Marzocchi exr is a good choice for cheap, and if you want something more hardcare that is designed for abuse and impacts that dirtjumper 3 by marzocchi is on sale for 260 on supergo.

Those are some good entry level forks that will suit your needs just fine.

First, I'm 26 and have been riding for 21, but I don't consider myself an expert, merely an advanced novice. I STILL have stuff to learn, and I strive to learn more daily. YOU ARE A BEGIINNER deal with it.

Note the proper spelling of the word you U is a letter not a word. Y is a letter as well You spell the word "why" w-h-y. AOL'ese (whichg is prevalent in your posts is mentioned under the Guidelines (http://www.bikeforums.net/misc.php?s=&action=faq&page=1#about)

Disruption...snip... Please do your best when it comes to grammar, punctuation and spelling. Consistent use of "AOL'ese" and "hAx0r" talk can be very disruptive.

Now that that's out of the way what out of the way what model of GT and what kind of riding are you looking to do? Also your weight is a concern.
Like most of us Clydesdales you shoud probably stay away from air sprung anything. (Something I had to learn the hard way.) Now given your budget your not going to get anything great unless you save like crazy. See about mowing lawns once the grass starts growing. One more thing that might help you on this board. Go to http://www.iespell.com and get the free spell checker they offer.

He's not going to respond. All you guys do is diss him and rip him to peices becuase he doesn't want to be called a beginner. Yeah he could change his grammar it would make it easier to understand him, but that doesn't give you guys any reason to chew him up like that. Wouldn't it be easier to just skip this thread than to keep making fun of him?

hey pterman-
shocks come in a wide variety of quality, and can make a big difference in the quality of your bike. i'd say save up and get the cheaper marzochi shock. those walmart or other *mart style shocks are not even comparable to the quality you will find with a decent shock. a lot of people sell them used when they upgrade. look on e-bay or www.mtbr.com in the classified section. or maybe your local bike shop could help you find some decent shocks for cheap.

The reason people are "chewing him up" is due to the fact that he posts a bunch of vague questions on the board then does the EXACT opposite of what anybody tells him, and has been doing so since he got here.

Research his threads (go to his profile and select view all posts by user.) if you don't believe me.

One of his first posts was a poll on "Wich bike is beter" he showed a Jeep Renegade TSi, some Honda branded thing and a couple other bikes of similar quality.* We told him specifically that he'd be better off with a used bike from a LBS than a new X-mart special - what does he do? His next post brags about his new MGX. :crash:

I have NO clue where the GT came into the mix, but that's not the point. The fact that he wants all sorts of info and then he doesn't listen to or believe ANYTHING he is told. Then whenever he does something and it doesn't work or breaks he comes back whining about as if we did tell him anything in the first place.
THAT is why he gets ripped up here. He has a terrible track record as far as taking honest advice goes.

I would MUCH rather deal with someone who bought a X-mart BSO (Bike Shaped Object) looking for advice on how to work on it, or whether it was worthwhile to fix, than I would someone who asks a bunch of questions about BSO's, is told not to waste his time and money, who is given alternatives and IGNORES the whole flippin' thing

In my last large post on this thread which, by the way, was dead and gone two months ago before SOMEBODY revived it. I set the record straight: he is a beginner compared to the majority of folks here, he does need to put forth some effort in communicating effectively, and I then posed pertinent questions to him in regards to solving his problem.

If he answers the questions - he will definitely receive help.

If he b!tches about being called a beginner and doesn't give us any info that we can use to help him or at least ask us how to determine where to find the answers we need to help him - he gets no help. Simple as that.

He needs to show that he can listen to and accept the advice given even if he doesn't like the answer. I'm not deliberately trying to be mean, but, that's the way life is. You don't get your way all the time.

Now the ball is in your court PTerman. Will you let us help or will you continue the way things are?

*The post in question seems to have disappeared from the forum as only 95 of his 102 posts are available for viewing, but rest assured, if you ask anybody that was here at the time they will remember.

Indeed it would. I don't know why some people in this thread continue to throw cheap insults rather than just simply saying what they have to say on the topic and moving on. Basically, it's like this - if you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say anything at all. If you don't like the way somebody words their questions, ignore their questions. Cheap insults will not serve anybody's interest.

Either way, this thread lost any value long ago, and I'm closing it. Any questions or comments PM me.

Surely you were 15 once.

I would imagine that he doesn't always follow advice because his parents would be the ones giving out the dollars for his his purchases.

If he had his own money I'm sure he'd be taking more notice. Sure it can be annoying for someone to ask questions and then not follow through, but at 15 he's at the age where he wants to learn.

Be nice to him. When he's older and becomes the head of some huge corporation he'll pay back the favour with free bikes for everyone.:D

PTerman - would you like to respond? Please don't be scared off by the vigorous discussion. Would you like to give your own reasons for not always taking the advice that's given? Believe it or not - most of us are friendly.
