Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - araya gold rims on the street?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
so i was ogling keirin bikes, and i couldn't help but notice a few with araya gold njs rims that looked like they were for street riding. the thing is, the rims don't look particularly substantial. anyone here ride those jams one the street? do the 36 spokes keep those things true?

tsk, tsk, tsk. no pictures?
I once saw someone riding with one on the front.... But he had an araya disk on the back so practicality was clearly not a concern.

A friend of mine rides them on the street, no problems. I ride araya 1w's, which are similar, slightly more rounded, and clincher and find them to be a nice combination between strength and weight. that and they're bad ass looking.

jrowe had 2 sets I think both of which he seriously flat spotted (here in boston).
The first was built by john at business cycles and the other was built by himself. No matter how well the wheels are built, if the rims are not very strong they are not going to stay round.
oh and he weighs about 130 so it was not because he's a big guy.

A several thousand dollar disc wheel on the street? wtf?
I ride them for training on the track. I'd never us them on the road. They are thin enough that just pounding the inside of one with my fist to get it out of a sticky pair of stay-ends caused the aluminum to buckle. The braking surfaces would wear through in no time. Plus, why spend $100 per rim for a road rim? Get a Mavic Reflex, Ambrosio Crono, or the like.
And the finish is very pretty polished aluminum when new, but there's no anodizing so the finish gets spotty and corroded almost immediately.
