What is the best Bicycling Mag? there are plenty of them to choose from, but I thought I would see what is hot before I spent my money.

TIA

Procycling!

You can check out their site at procycling.com and subscribe from there. Best mag out available by far.

I second procycling. Cyclesport would be my next choice after Procycling.

I just got my first issue of ASPHALT.
yeah, I know I was kind of balking about a $10.00
magazine, but what the heck its only money. . .
. . . and it was well worth it.

To paraphrase a bit, its not a racing magazine
for that see Velonews, or procycling etc.
It has no Mountain bike articles, its a road magazine,
more about bicycling as a lifestyle than style.
It isn't written for the MTV Soundbite generation,
in otherwords, it has real articles. The bike reviews
are more in line with Bicycle Guide if you remember
that one (in fact same writers, editor etc).
The photography is magnificent, the articles/reviews
are top notch.
I don't think you can go wrong with this one. . .

I actually like Cycle Sport just a bit better than Procycling, but it's just a matter of personal preference. I read and enjoy both. I also like VeloNews.

I subscribed to Asphalt. It may take some getting used to. I like the concept, but the execution of the first edition left me a bit flat. The guy who wrote the article on almost climbing Mont Ventoux seemed more interested in making sure the reader knew what a hot rod cyclist he was. Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age.

When Bicycling shifted its marketing focus from the attention-deficit-disorder demographic (no offense intended to those actually afflicted with ADHD) I was optimistic, but again the execution has left me unsatisfied or irritated. I would be more interested in reading about John Doe every day cyclists than the world's fittest man.

When it gets down to it, I am much more interested in stories and ride reports from you, my BikeForums buddies.

There was a mag at one of my favorite shops called RIDE. It was loaded with awesome pictures. I didn't see many articles, but the pictures were enough for me. Unfortunetly, it was stinkin' expensive(for a mag).

Does anybody else feel creepy from the newsprint paper when they read Velonews? I mean, I can't even stand to hold onto that thing. I have to lay it on the floor and just touch it to turn the pages.

Could I be tactile defensive?

I'd suggest that you check Velonews out again, they
stopped using newsprint paper about 4 months ago
(thats a wild guess on the timeframe but its close).
They are using normal magazine stock albeit a thinner
one than say Asphalt, more like Bicycling.

Rainman, I figure its gonna take a while for it
to shake out, till they get settled and such.
I'd kill for a full run of Bicycle Guide, now THAT
was a magazine worth reading.

I liked Bicycle Guide, too. Towards the end, when they were called Bicyclist, they were beginning to take an interest in touring. I was truly saddened when Petersen Publishing dumped them for Bike Magazine.

I fully agree.. When I first picked up Bicycling a couple years ago.. it was pretty decent.. at least good enough for me to get my interests back into cycling... but since they changed formats again.. some of the "articles" suck... That one about the world's fittest man... what was that about.. he seemd like a fraud, and it really had ZERO to do with cycling other than the oh so brief mention of a bike ride in it... I would like to find a magazine that deals with the bicycle enthusiast who knows a thing or two about bikes, has good pictures, has really interesting articles, and doesn't cost $10... Maybe I need to start my own mag !

Asphalt (http://www.asphaltmag.com/index.htm)!!

Asphalt is a magazine for the dedicated road cyclist. Whether you race, ride centuries or just make it out to the local group ride a few days a week, Asphalt addresses your lifestyle like no other publication. From gorgeous photos of bikes and destinations, to real stories you can curl up with in bed, Asphalt is a magazine of substance. Printed on heavy-bond, glossy paper and perfect bound, Asphalt is the road magazine you have always wished for.

I've been trading e-mail with the
editor of Asphalt, and he is intimating
that with increased subscriptions, and of
course advertising the magazine will increase
in size, and increase frequency of publication
(every 2 months next?).
So, all ya'll road types who whinge about the
lack of good magazines, I say pony up. . .

Bicycle Guide. I was going through a bunch of old boxes that I moved here to NY and found a whole box full of them. Early to mid 90's. I loved that one. Based on the reviews here I think I might try Cycle Sport out.
