Classic & Vintage - Suntour rear derailleur for 32t

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I purchased a Suntour Winner 6 freewheel 13-32 as a spare for a Takara Deluxe Touring. It is currently set up with a Suntour V-GT Luxe and a Suntour 6, 13-30 freewheel. I would like to purchase a spare rear derailleur. It shifts really smoothly with the V-GT Luxe and Suntour Power Ratchet shifters. I have not been able to find a V-GT Luxe on e-bay. Anyone know what other Suntour models would handle 32t?

Assuming you want to keep it vintage, there is the AG (medium cage RD-5000 & long cage,
RD-5600), BL (long cage RD-3300), Cyclone Mk II (medium cage RD-3700), Mountech (medium cage RD-4900 & long cage, RD-5500), Superbe Tech (medium cage RD-4800 & long cage RD-5400), Vx (long cage RD-2400). All these derailleurs were rated for a 34T maximum freewheel, however depending on the chairing combination they may, or may not, be capable of wrapping sufficient chain. Also, many Suntour derailleurs are rated at 30T. This is often a conservative rating and they may be capable of handling a couple more teeth, particualrly if you have a long derailleur hanger on your dropout.

I use a Cyclone GT rear der, with 32t rear cog, 54/46 front. Works great, and as T-Mar mentioned, should be OK for up to 34t.

The Suntour AG will handle 38.
I also have a pair of AR's that handle 32's with no problem.

I have a Schwinn World Sport set up with a New Winner 13-32 freewheel and a Suntour ARX rear derailler. Has worked fine since 1984.

that's a good idea
PM me about a V-GT luxe and we'll see what we can work out.
