Bicycle Mechanics - wheelset question...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
After some arse smashed the Ms.'s wheel last night I'm searching for a new set of hoops and have a couple of questions.
What is the big difference between disc hubs and non disc hubs and can disc hubs be used with standard brakes?
Mavic 221 or rhyno lite?
LX o XT??
I'd like to get these ordered today!!!!

Yes, disc hubs can be used with standard brakes. They just have mounts for the rotors in case you need them. XT is a step above LX. I like Mavic over Rhyno Lite but that's a matter of preference.

Everything that Dirtgrinder said, except that I prefer the Rhyno Lites and have had success with them. Both should do fine. Check out www.mtbr.com for reviews on both the rims and the hubs.
Thanks folks..
I spent WAY too much time on MTBR today LOL... I always check out that site before forking over any fun tickets.
I ended up going with the XT hubs on Mavic F519 wheelset. At $149.00 it was a few more coins than I wanted to spend but I think these should be good for another 10 years or so. I'm doing a trade :D with the wife.. she gets my old LX/sun chinooks and I get the new hoops. She was cool with it so aside from spending the $$$ were all happy here LOL

Good man, Dougmt. It's nice to hear when a marital trade works out and everyone is happy.
