The others were being supportive with constructive criticism.
They were just pointng out if your gonna make this a labor of love, maybe start with a better frame.
And if you love your Huffy, go for it!

Apart from the boat anchor, its a nice bike. It took where I needed it to go, but then i sold it and got what i thought was a better vintage bike, but wasnt! It'll look nice with that black flake.

If you're going to do it up right.... this is how a "Huffy" should look! It's even got the standard white garage door....

Good for you my friend. Its not the quality of the bike as it sits, its the amount of work and labor your willing to spend on it. I applaud you for your efforts. I too took a Walmart Schwinn Varsity and converted it into quite a nice machine. I did strip it and repaint it myself. I had my friend make up decals for it and now you would never know its not a $1,000.00 bike. I will post some before and after pics. Oh and the entire project cost me $300.

i stripped it down today to the metal, wasnt much work just about 5 hrs of sanding and smoothing everything out, tomorrow i just have to smooth out the fork and prime it up and paint. Oh one question DuathMAN, if i stand the bike up and paint it would that be the best way?

Not DuathMAN, but here's my 2 cents: hanging the frame/fork would be the best, letting you spray every surface in one step. A junk handlebar and seat would be handy for this.
Otherwise a bench or table that puts the frame at a good working height.
If you're using spraycans, one of those trigger things will prevent the sore fingertip.

I used my greenhouse as the place to paint so I could keep the bugs to a minimum. I ended up hanging the frame in different positions using bungee cords so I could get to all the spots. I did not hurry the painting as I didn't want runs. I laid probably 8 to 10 thin coats of paint, then a single coat of clear coat and then decals. I let the clear coat cure for a few days (until you can't smell it anymore) and then 6 thin layers of clear coat on top. I let it cure for two weeks before putting it back together. Here is a close up of the paint job......good luck.

well i painted it today, heres a few pics, i stodd it up and then layed it on its side after it dryed and painted it, everything turned out the way i wanted it to. my clear coat says to apply 3 coats then let dry for 24hrs.

russiankid, if you like the bike, that's all that counts! Enjoy restoring and repainting it, however you want to! Heck, I know a guy that did a full disassembly restoration on a 1971 Pinto, and just lives for the car! Obsession with a particular bike is fine, it's your obsession and no one elses!http://www.gifmaniacos.com/Asterix/asterix01.gif

Cool, and I'd be interested in seeing the final assembled pics. The metal flake undercoat (Preclearcoat) looked good, BTW! It looks like it's going to look really nice when finaled out! Are you planning to stay with the steel wheels or are you planning on alloy at some point as either 27" or 700c? If you are thinking about 700c, you will probably have to replace the brake calipers, incidentally. Good on ya for restoring the bike and enjoy!http://img26.exs.cx/img26/2245/thumbsup8de.gif

I might just leave this bike the way it is and get a better bike to upgrade, thats as soon as my dad will get me a shed to keep my bikes in:rolleyes: but thanks for the compliment i'll take some pics tomorrow
