I'm not an expert on this at all, but I've heard and seen it mentioned several times that testosterone use doesn't provide a short-term benefit, rather one needs to take it over time to see real benefits. If that's the case, why would Landis have elevated testosterone on one day only?

Is it a) masking didn't work that day or b) that there is actually some real, substantive benefit to one-time use or c) something else altogether?

thats what i heard too...the guys on ESPN were saying either it was a natural occurance or he is an absolute idiot when it comes to doping...the latter i find to be very unlikely considering the level of athleticism he works in...it seems to be a very high school football team kind of doping case and not a professional cyclists doping case.

Apparently it can be, and is quite often, used by cyclists for recovery purposes. In low dosages, just enough to get the benefit, but not so much that the tests will still be elevated after the event. Manzano discussed using it more for the "rush" and to give energy. If you use Google News to search for testosterone, you'll find this sort of information, in addition to some sceptical scientists and sports commentators.
