Bicycle Mechanics - Questions about needle bearings and BB.

I have a Trek 610 that's been put off for too long. I was thinking about redoing the paint, but this thing needs to be ridden asap. Anyway, it has needle bearings, which don't seem to have very much grease. After I clean them up, would a very light coating of marine bearing grease suffice? I'm also wondering about the BB, which I'm guessing is a cartridge type. With the chain off I can spin it and feel a slight vibration once it reachs a certain point in each revolution. Can I just ride on it for just a little bit? Or do I run into other risks by not taking it apart and relubing it, or replacing it?

Headset, top and bottom. I didn't find much grease in there, but it's been sitting for some time, and could've dried out.

You sould pack the bearings with whatever grease you like. Waterproof grease is fine, though it's not necessary.

If you have a cartridge BB then the only maintenance you can performis to replace the entire cartridge. Replacements are generally pretty cheap so it's not worth freting over. If you think it may be going bad, just buy a new one of the same size (it should be stamped on the cartrdge) and replace it.

Sounds good! One last question, there is a barely noticable vibration, but no play. So long as there's no play the only thing I can break is the replacable cartridge, correct?

Look carefully at the beaings & races. If everything is smooth, with no pitting or corrosion, then cleaning and re-packing with marine grease will be all that is needed.
