What size bottom bracket cartridge should I buy for a early/mid 90's Trek 1400? I know its English thread, but I dont know anything else. Is it square taper? And what is the spindle length? It has a Shimano 105 SG double sprocket up front. Thanks for your help!

probally a 68 x 107 square taper shimano or if you care to spend the money on something a bit nicer, an IRD bottom bracket. a shimano un 73 (good for maybe 10,000 miles) should run around 40 dollars and many good shops have them in stock. lesser bbs from shimano work well, but only for a time. I personally recommmend the IRD bottom bracket as it is very smooth, made in japan, with all alloy cups. it runs around 40 dollars as well but is a much harder find

I wish you had told me that sooner. I had two UN73's that lasted over 30,000 miles each and were still good when I replaced them as part of crank upgrades. If I had known, I would have gotten rid of them much earlier. :)

Does it have a bottom bracket on there right now? If so, measure that one! I have a 105 crank from the late 90s which takes a 68x110 BB.
