There is side to side play in the right pedal, Crankbrothers said to tighten the nut and if it did not help they woould warrenty them. I'd rather not lose riding time waiting for shipping. The left pedal is fine, zero play, the right has a few milimeters of left to right play. The nut is as tight as it is going to get, any ideas? Or am I looking at a few weeks of not riding while my pedals are warrentied? Thanks.

I had the same problem, but mine was that the end cap needed to be tightened. It was plastic and eventually I lost it as it kept coming loose. They sent me metal replacements in less than a week and that took care of the problem.

No, you're looking at picking up a pair of cheapo used pedals+toe clips or even SPD pedals for $10 and keeping them as emergency reserve or selling them for $5 once your beaters come back. That applies if you know what you're doing with the bearing/nut and it's really shot.

I have not the slightest idea how one wouldn't know what they were doing with that nut. It is a nut on a bolt for gods sake... I've tightened it as tight as it gets, you'll have to trust me on this. The plastic end cap was a little loose though but there is still play. I guess it's off to Crankbrothers for these guys.

I imagine that there are 2 nuts tightened against each other to stop them loosening spontaneously, if it's a cup'n'cone-stlye adjuster thingie, which some cartridge bearings do have. If you tighten the outer nut, it doesn't necessarily tighten the bearing. Or there is just one nut, in which case it's almost impossible to do it wrong.

However, the kind of problems this board sometimes presents made me never give to give up the suspicion. (There was a guy who said the cranks of the world had conspired against him... he stripped 3 pedal threads in a year. It turned out that he had tightened his pedals by hand. I guess he never realised the pedals were flopping around in the crank for 100 mi before they fell out.)

I'm sure you know what you're doing, though. Just a reflex;)
